HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Middle Tennessee State 25, Quinnipiac 18)
- After splitting the first 12 points of the set, the Bobcats jumped out to an early 9-6 lead thanks to a Maria Panzari kill and multiple errors by Middle Tennessee.
- The Blue Raiders evened the set with the next three points and it remained tight until Dora Peonia struck for five of six consecutive Middle Tennessee kills and ran the Blue Raider lead to 22-15.
- The teams split the final six points of the set, allowing Middle to win the set, 25-18.
SECOND SET (Quinnipiac 25, Middle Tennessee State 22)
- The two teams were never separated by more than three points at any part of the second set.
- The largest lead of the set came when two Kaleigh Oates kills began and ended a four-point Bobcats run to open a 16-13 edge.
- Two more kills by Peonia and a service ace by Brienna Tankesley pulled Middle back even at 16-16.
- The Bobcats earned the next two points and the teams then alternated points for the next 12 sequences before Maggie Baker powered a kill through a block attempt to close the set out at 25-22.
- The third set featured some of the highest quality play that Quinnipiac Volleyball has seen in years as 17 of the 25 Bobcat points came by way of a kill or service ace.
- After a Mason Bailey kill put the Blue Raiders ahead 8-7, the Bobcats scored six of the next seven points, forcing a Middle Tennessee timeout at 13-9. Kat Miller had two kills and a service ace on the run.
- After a mix of kills and errors on both sides moved the score to 19-14 Bobcats, Miller took over the match starting with a kill and closing a 6-0 Quinnipiac run with back-to-back service aces. Miller is the current MAAC leader in service aces/service attempt.
FOURTH SET (Middle Tennessee State 25, Quinnipiac 16)
- Middle Tennessee came out of the break with a vengeance in the fourth set. The Blue Raiders opened on a 13-1 run and eventually built up to a 15-3 advantage.
- The Bobcats showed some life in the set by rattling off seven straight points, including three kills by Oates, to draw as close as 15-10.
- After the splitting next two points, the Bobcats would not get closer than 16-11, as Middle settled in and closed out the set at 25-16.
- The Blue Raiders carried their fourth set momentum into the final frame, forcing Quinnipiac Head Coach Kris Czaplinski to burn two timeouts in a 9-4 start to the set.
- The Bobcats mustered four of the next six points out of the second timeout, narrowing the gap to 10-7, but two MTSU kills and three Bobcats attack errors finished the set, 15-8, and the match, 3-2
