PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Quinnipiac women's tennis team picked up its 10th win of the season as it captured a 5-2 road win over Providence on Thursday afternoon.
The victory moves the Bobcats to 10-6 on the season, while Providence falls to 4-15. Juniors Jennifer Lu and Proyfon Lohaphaisan each recorded their 99th career wins in the match, leaving them one shy of the 100-win milestone heading into tomorrow's road match at Siena.
Lu swept singles and doubles to move to 99 career wins, teaming with freshman Payton Bradley for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and then earning a three-set win at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-2. Lohaphaisan earned her 99th win in doubles, teaming with freshman Dominique Vasile for a 6-2 win at No. 2, but fell at No. 4 singles.
Vasile continued her strong run playing at the No. 1 singles line as she earned a quick 6-1, 6-3 win to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Freshmen Stephanie Yanosov and Courtney Nash, who teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, then finished off wins at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, to give the Bobcats the clinch. Yanosov won her match 6-4, 6-3, while Nash dropped only four games on her way to a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Quinnipiac heads to Siena tomorrow (at Tri-Cities in Latham, New York) at 12 p.m. in a rematch of last season's tightly fought MAAC Championship, which the Bobcats won 4-2 behind singles and doubles wins from Lu. Both teams come in undefeated in the MAAC, with Quinnipiac at 4-0 and Siena at 3-0, putting the winner in the driver's seat for the top seed in the MAAC Tournament. The Bobcats will be putting their 42-0 all-time record against MAAC opponents on the line, while Lu and Lohaphaisan will both be shooting for their 100th wins.
