Alexandra Sazhin Breaks QU Women's Golf Birdie Record at Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Quinnipiac women's golf team earned its second straight third place finish, while sophomore Alexandra Sazhin had three birdies to set a new single-season program record with 46 this year, on the second and final day of the Low Country Intercollegiate.

Sophomore Alexandra Sazhin had three birdies on her way to a 78, giving her 46 this season, eclipsing the mark of 44 set two seasons ago by current junior Luciana Tobia-Palza.
Freshman Queenie Lai, who was named the MAAC Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, continued her strong play with a 75 on Sunday and a two-day 76-75-151, placing her in a tie for third in the tournament individually out of 76 competitors.
Lai was only four strokes behind the individual champion, Melany Chong of Appalachian State, who finished with a 73-74-157.
Tobia-Palza was one shot behind Lai in a tie for sixth place, shooting at 75 on Sunday and a 77-75-152 over the two days.
As a team, Quinnipiac shot a 309-311-620 over the two days, tying for third with Appalachian State.
Seton Hall won the team title with a 609, while Albany ended up with a 617, three shots ahead of the Bobcats.
USC Upstate (621) and Wofford (625) were close behind the Bobcats in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Quinnipiac was coming off a third-place finish in its last tournament, the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday and Tuesday. Three of the four teams to finish ahead of the Bobcats this week were Big East teams (Butler, Saint John's, Seton Hall).
