RECORDS
Quinnipiac (9-21, 7-11 MAAC) | Fairfield (14-15, 11-7 MAAC)
FIRST SET (Fairfield 26, Quinnipiac 24) – The Bobcats opened the match with confidence as Morgan Sherwin threw down three early kills to open up a 7-2 Quinnipiac lead. Fairfield pulled within two after a Luci Albertson kill made it 9-7 Bobcats, but Quinnipiac answered with three straight points to force the Stags to use a timeout. After the Bobcats took a 14-9 lead, Fairfield scored three of the next four points and would eventually tie the match at 15. As the back-and-forth set continued, the Bobcats went on a 4-1 run, pushing Fairfield to the brink at 19-16. The score had progressed to 21-20 when Lydia Jones picked up a kill and Sherwin added two to generate set point at 24-21. Set point did not psyche out the Stags, as the #4 seed rallied to produce a 5-0 and win the set 26-24.
SECOND SET (Fairfield 25, Quinnipiac 18) – Fairfield used the momentum of the dramatic first set win to jump out to a 5-1 lead in the second set. Sherwin and Kat Miller tallied kills to cut into the lead, but the Bobcats were unable to get any closer than two points, falling 25-18 in the frame.
THIRD SET (Fairfield 26, Quinnipiac 24) – The third set consisted of multiple runs, starting with a 7-3 run for Fairfield as they looked to close out the match. After a well-placed timeout by Kris Czaplinski, the Bobcats answered with a 7-2 run of their own to take a 10-9 lead and force the Stags to use a timeout of their own. The two sides would trade points for the next few sequences, resulting in an 18-18 tie, before Fairfield would put away five of six points to inch closer to the victory. But again, the Bobcats continued to fight, evening the score at 23-23 thanks to a Maggie Baker kill. Both teams would reach 24, with the Bobcats fending off a match point on a kill by Jones, but the Stags closed out the match after an error and a kill by Sydney Williams.
