STONY BROOK, New York – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team opened the 2017 season placing third out of four teams in the Stony Brook Season Opener. Freshman Danielle Marcone (Bethel, Connecticut) impressed in her collegiate debut, placing fifth overall to lead the way for the Bobcats.

NOTES
- Quinnipiac finished with 62 total team points, placing behind Stony Brook (33) and Fordham (41) and ahead of Sacred Heart (81)
- Head coach Carolyn Martin held out nearly half her roster, as she has chosen to do with her top competitors in the first meet of the season for many years
- Danielle Marcone shined in her debut, posting a Top 5 finish while setting the pace (5:42.3 avg mile time) for her team throughout the meet
- Marcone was the lone Bobcat to place in the Top 10 while she was also the fastest freshman in the field
- Graduate student Cori Reid, a four-year member of the Quinnipiac track and field programs, put together an impressive 11th place finish in her debut with the cross country team
- Maria Ricalton improved upon her overall result for the third straight season at the Stony Brook Season Opener, placing 14th today after finishing 23rd as a sophomore and 34th as a freshman
- Four of the top seven Bobcat finishers on the day were freshmen
NEXT MEET
Quinnipiac enjoys an off week before traveling to Holmdel Park in New Jersey for the Monmouth Invitational. The meet is an important one as the Bobcats will preview the course that will host the 2017 MAAC Championships in late October.
