STORRS, Connecticut -The Quinnipiac men's tennis team kicks off its 2017-18 season this weekend at the UConn Invitational. The Bobcats will look look to build off of a strong 2016-17 campaign when they return seven players while welcoming in two new freshman this year this fall.
TOP STORYLINES FOR 2017-18
- Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New jersey) starts his senior campaign this weekend after being named to the ALL-MAAC First Team at No. 3 singles and All-MAAC Second Team at No. 1 doubles. He combined for 33 wins for the Bobcats, leading the team in winning percentage in both categories.
- Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) returns for his fourth season with the Bobcats after taking home a first-team ALL-MAAC selection in singles along with a second-team ALL-MAAC in doubles. He combined for 17 wins for Quinnipiac last season.
- Alex Stern (Tustin, California) looks to build off his strong freshman season, where he picked up 30 wins in his rookie season. Stern went 13-17 in singles play and 17-11 in doubles.
- Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) earned 20 wins in 2016-17, going 10-15 in singles competitions and 10-3 in doubles play.
- Jackson Koke (Calgary, Alberta) compiled a 7-6 record in singles and a 2-4 mark in doubles, combining for nine wins for the Bobcats.
- Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) will look to build off his singles championship in his fight at the UConn Invitational last year where he won with three-straight third-set tiebreaker wins.
- Yannone combined for 25 wins for the Bobcats in 2016-2017 with a 10-7 record in singles and a 15-12 mark in doubles.
- Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) tallied 25 wins for Quinnipiac in his sophomore season, going 11-13 in singles and 14-7 in doubles.
- Zaretsky was a perfect 4-0 in doubles in MAAC play.
- Bernhard Wright (Oslo, Norway) kicks off his freshman-year campaign this weekend. Wright is a former Oslo Club Champion and has a serve that can reach speeds in excess of 130 M.P.H.
- Hielke Moore (Fredericton, New Brunswick) enters his rookie season with the Bobcats. He is an eight-time Atlantic Junior Champion in singles and a three-time champion in doubles.
