NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team put forth a well-rounded effort through two days of competition at the Giegengack Invitational hosted by Yale University at Coxe Cage in New Haven.
Francine Jacque (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) was the strongest competitor on the day for the Bobcats as the sophomore sprinter tallied a pair of second place finishes in her two events (60m, 200m). After placing second in the 60m preliminary on Friday, Jacque followed that up with a runner-up finish in the finals while posting a season-best time of 7.86 seconds. Later in the 200m, Jacque came just 0.02 seconds shy of recording the victory as she settled for second place with another season high time of 25.61 seconds.
For the second straight meet, Mikah Maples (Mowequa, Illinois) scored another program record in the shot put as she threw 12.24m to best her own previous program record (12.23m) by a slim margin of 0.01m. Joining Maples with solid showings in the shot put were Michaela Mendygral's (Wallingford, Connecticut) personal best throw of 11.72m (5th place) while Mackenzie Merkel (Hillsdale, New Jersey) followed with 11.55m (7th place) as all three scored Top 10 results.
The 2016 MAAC Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer Carly Timpson (Narragansett, Rhode Island) is starting to round into form as the sophomore picked up her third career title in the weight throw event as she threw a season-best 16.50m to best a field of 14 competitors. The victory is the first of the season for Timpson while she's now set a new season high in three straight appearances in the weight throw.
Meredith Ramsey (Penacook, New Hampshire) put forth her best day as a Bobcat as the sophomore posted new personal records in both the 60m (8.07) and 200m (26.53) while placing 4th and 10th, respectively. Ramsey later factored in the 4x400m relay as the Bobcats' team of Ramsey, Jacque, Christina Barbaro (Elk Township, New Jersey) and Marlo Wehrer (Pequannock, New Jersey) combined to finish in second place out of six teams with a time of 3:56.55.
Barbaro, like Ramsey, managed to place in both the 60m and 200m as the junior claimed eighth place with a time of 8.26 seconds in the 60m while she followed up with a seventh place result in the 200m as she crossed the line in 26.39 seconds.
Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) placed eighth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.09 while Alyson Caron (1:18.99, 6th) and Meghan Curtin (1:19.84, 9th) both earned Top 10 finishes in the 500m and Kaitlyn Hebert (2:27.03, 7th) and Ahmetra Davies (2:28.99, 9th) did the same in the 800m.
Several strong performances came in the distance events, headlined by the third place result from Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Connecticut) in the 1000m as she crossed the line in 2:54.81. Four Bobcats packed up well and put forth solid efforts in the 3000m as Ellie Songer (10:32.42, 5th), Maria Ricalton (10:34.35, 6th), Katey Veron (10:44.70, 7th) and Cameron Chaplen (10:51.65, 9th) all scored Top 10 results. Harmony Grodsky (Upper Brookville, New York) also claimed seventh place in the one mile as she posted a time of 5:24.66.
Rounding out the day for the Bobcats in the field events was Timpson who combined her weight throw victory with a third place result in the high jump (1.58m). Kelsey Coughlin (Riverside, Rhode Island) matched her program record with 2.75m in the pole vault. Bonnie Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, New York) earned fifth place in the long jump (5.37m) and sixth in the triple jump (10.24m).
The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend from Feb. 10-11 at the Valentine Invitational as Quinnipiac heads back to Boston for a very competitive two-day meet.
