
Kei Ezaka Jumps to Third All-Time in Program Wins as Bobcats Sweep Niagara

NIAGARA FALLS, New York - The Quinnipiac men's tennis team was able to defeat Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Niagara, 7-0, in Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in MAAC play.
The victory improves the Bobcats' record to 5-3 (3-0 MAAC) overall, while Niagara falls to 2-3 on the season. Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) earned two victories on the day, improving his career victory totals to 129, placing him third all-time on the career wins list.
Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey), Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey), Axel Stern (Tustin, California) and Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) all earned multiple victories as well in the contest.
The Bobcats did not lose a single loss in today's match, keeping their streak alive of 27 straight match victories alive in MAAC matches.
The day began with the No. 3 doubles draw, where Ezaka and Alper teamed up to take on Josh Wilson and Taylan Ozdemir. The Bobcat duo was able to cruise to a 6-2 victory. The No. 1 doubles match immediately followed, where Zaretsky and Rozenstein defeated Felipe Fuentes and Francis Nadeau, 7-5. With the win the Bobcats clinched the doubles point. Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) and Stern secured the doubles sweep when they defeated Lukas Wenninger and Brent Boleslay, 7-6.
As the Bobcats held a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles, they were able to ride the momentum to a clean sweep in singles play as well.
In the No. 1 singles match, Ezaka swept Fuentes in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The win gave Ezaka his 129th of his career, giving him sole possession of third place on the program's all-time wins list. Ezaka needs just three victories to take possession of second place and nine to hold the all-time record.
In the No. 2 singles match, Zaretsky was able to cruise past Odemir in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Rozenstein followed that with a win of his own over Nadeau in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Stern kept the streak alive with a win over Wilson in straight sets, 6-3 and 7-6 (3). The win gave Stern his 21st of the season, which is tops on the team.
The Bobcats finished off the match strong when Alper defeated Boleslay in straight sets, 6-1 and 7-5, followed by Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) defeating Wenninger in straight sets 6-2 and 6-4.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 19, when they travel to take on the Buffalo Bulls at noon.
