
QU Women's Basketball Earns Fourth-Straight Win With 64-58 Victory Over Hampton

HAMPTON, Virginia - The Quinnipiac women's basketball team withstood a late Hampton run to hold on and defeat the Lady Pirates, 64-58, on Sunday afternoon at the Hampton Convocation Center.
The win was Quinnipiac's fourth in a row, as the Bobcats close a short two-game road-trip with two wins before heading back to Hamden. Quinnipiac used a balanced attack as Aryn McClure (Springfield Gardens, New York), Carly Fabbri (Stratford, Connecticut) and Paula Strautmane (Riga, Latvia) combined for 41 of the Bobcats' 64 points.

- Senior guard Carly Fabbri (Stratford, Connecticut) led the way with 15 points, tying her season-high. Fabbri scored 15 points in the Bobcats win over Richmond on Friday.

- The Bobcats knocked down three three-pointers during the run with two coming from Jen Fay (Lynbrook, New York) and one from freshman Chiara Bacchini (Parma, Italy).
- After Hampton responded with a 9-0 run of its own, McClure halted it with a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to secure a Quinnipiac three-point point at lead into the half.
- Quinnipiac took the lead for the final time after a Fabbri layup gave the Bobcats a 37-35 lead with 7:25 remaining in the third quarter.
- Fabbri's layup also sparked a 10-3 run for the Bobcats, which was capped by a Fabbri three as well.
- McClure opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to push Quinnipiac an 11-point lead, its largest of the game.
- Hampton went on an 8-0 run in the fourth to cut the Bobcats' lead to two points, but Quinnipiac never relinquished the lead.
- Hampton cut the Quinnipiac lead to just one with just 2:25 remaining, but that would be the last time the Lady Pirates scored in the contest.
- With 56 seconds remaining, Strautmane found a cutting Fabbri to score the layup to put Quinnipiac up three, essentially icing the game.
- Despite Hampton's late run, the Bobcats held the lead for 84% of the game.
