QU Field Hockey Stages Late Comeback for Senior Day Win over Siena

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac field hockey team scored three second-half goals in a span of 10:32 to rally from a 2-0 deficit and earn a 3-2 win over Siena on its Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium. The Bobcats honored nine seniors before the game and two of them had goals in the comeback, with Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) starting the rally with 16:49 to play, and Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, N.J.) scoring the game-winner with 6:17 left.

- The nine seniors honored before the game included Montana Fleming (Delran, N.J.), Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, N.J.), Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa), Lily Shemo (Luzerne, Pa.), Kiera Godusky (Allentown, Pa.), Felicia Costanzo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Rachel Hamm (Collegeville, Pa.), Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Conn.) and Selina Reichert (Lower Hutt, New Zealand).
- Quinnipiac dominated the stats with a 26-5 advantage in shots (17-2 in the second half) and an 11-3 edge in penalty corners, but still trailed 2-0 when Siena scored its second with 17:28 to play.
- Belskie's game-winner came when she swept in a short pass off a penalty corner from junior Elisa Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain) to complete the comeback, her team-leading fifth goal of the season. She is also now tied with Federico for the team lead in points with 12.
- Barlow started the comeback when she scored just 39 seconds after Siena had taken a 2-0 lead, when Federico sent a pass in front from outside the top of the circle, and Barlow swept it in to the right side of the cage.
- Sophomore Ines Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain) had the tying goal with 10:16 remaining off an assist from Fleming.
- The tying goal came after Siena starting goalie Mary Crumlish was issued a green card and was forced to exit the game. Crunlish kept her team in the game with 12 saves
- Backup Lauren DeLor had a save off the ensuing penalty corner, but Quinnipiac earned the equalizer off a restart when Fleming passed from the right corner up to Ruiz Martinez at the top of the circle. Ruiz Martinez took one dribble in and swept a low shot inside the left post.
- Quinnipiac improved to 22-1 all-time in the series with Siena, including 17 straight wins since the last loss in 2000.
- Golini finished with three saves, including a couple of key ones in the first half when Siena got in alone on the cage.
