Quinnipiac Athletics mourns the tragic loss of Mike Radomski, a former student broadcaster who passed away on Oct. 12, 2017. While an undergraduate student at Quinnipiac until his graduation in 2010, Radomski was the sports director with WQAQ Radio and played an instrumental role in the growth of QBSN, a student-operated sports entity dedicated to broadcasting all of Quinnipiac's athletic events.
Among his many accomplishments at Quinnipiac, Quinnipiac Athletics celebrates his commitment to its baseball program's student-athletes. Radomski traveled with former head coach Dan Gooley's team as it's official play-by-play announcer. Mike became part of the team and brought coverage of the program's student-athletes to their families, friends and Bobcat fans. Radomski was the first, and currently only, student broadcaster to travel with a team on a regular basis. For his work with WQAQ and Quinnipiac baseball, he was recognized by Quinnipiac University with the Award for Excellence in Sports and Media.
An enthusiastic baseball fan, Radomski exhibited knowledge of the game well beyond his years. His dedication to his craft and tireless effort was a testament to his character and an indicator of a bright, promising future.
Upon graduating from Quinnipiac, Radomski was hired as a part-time broadcaster with the Evansville Otters, an independent team in the Frontier League, before working his way to the full-time position of director of media relations less than a year later. He went on to become the longest-tenured broadcaster in the team's history, calling over 550 games in five seasons.
With his reputation solidified as a rising star, the University of Evansville hired Radomski as the assistant sports information director before being promoted to director of media relations. He then continued to develop his career with a jump to USF, where he covered baseball, men's basketball, sailing and volleyball.
In 2015, Radomski was celebrated by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as one of the professional organization's Rising Stars Under 30. Radomski tragically passed at 29 years old.
Quinnipiac Athletics would like to extend its deepest sympathies to his wife, Christina, and family. Radomski will be recognized prior to the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey game on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 during Alumni Weekend.
Statement from Quinnipiac Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications Ken Sweeten
"I was very saddened by Mike's passing. His positive outlook on life and his profession was overshadowed only by his dedication to the work that he created. Quinnipiac athletics was very fortunate to have had him cover our baseball program, and our student-athletes were grateful for providing a voice to their team. His commitment to the field of sports information and service to student-athletes was admirable and inspiring. His term as sports director with WQAQ, in minor league baseball and in college athletics can be characterized by a single word: excellence."
Statement From Former Quinnipiac Head Baseball Coach Dan Gooley
"Mike Radomski was a truly dedicated and committed baseball professional, devoted to his love of journalism through radio and television. I thoroughly enjoyed having Mike with the team in 2009, and will forever be grateful for the work that he did for our club. He was a great person with an amazing personality. He will be truly missed."
Statement from Quinnipiac Athletics Broadcaster Bill Schweizer
"Mike Radomski was a student in my Sports Reporting class. The thing that made him stand out was not just his up-beat personality, but he was always so well-prepared and ready to go the extra mile. I can always spot students who 'can't miss' and those who will struggle. Mike was always a 'can't miss!'"
