BURLINGTON, Vermont –Quinnipiac field hockey lost to Vermont, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up in Burlington, Vermont. With the loss, Quinnipiac slips to 0-5 overall while Vermont improves to 4-1 on the still-young season.
Savanna Reilly's (Hamden, Connecticut) goal early in the first half was her team-leading fourth of the season while it also extended her goal streak to four games – the longest at Quinnipiac since Jess Rusin scored in six consecutive games from Oct. 6 through Oct. 27 in 2013.
Reilly has now had a hand in all five of Quinnipiac's goals this season after picking up an assist on Dayna Barlow's goal against UMass Lowell. Additionally, Reilly also became the 12th player in Quinnipiac field history to score 20 career goals. She sits just two points shy of the 50-point mark for her career.
Reilly's marker came early in the second half after both teams played to a scoreless tie heading into halftime. The Bobcats' senior attacker, who also posted a three-game goal streak as a junior in 2014, fired off three shots on goal, collecting the rebound on each one, before depositing her last shot into the back of the Catamounts' cage to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats' lead was short-lived as Vermont scored twice in a three-minute span late in the second half. Carla Godsman's game-tying goal came with just under seven minutes to play before Vermont's Landon Warren countered with the go-ahead goal with four minutes on the clock.
Quinnipiac will hope to bounce back on Sunday, Sept. 11 when it hosts Lafayette at Yale University's Johnson Field at 5:30 p.m. The game will be played to benefit the "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" campaign sponsored by Go4theGoal.
