
QU Men's Tennis Wins Program Record 15th Match in 5-2 Win over ASA College

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team made history Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats set the new program record for wins in a single season with 15 with a 5-2 win against ASA College at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Quinnipiac broke the previous record of 14 wins from the 2004-05 that went 14-6 and reached the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats improve their record to 15-7 (6-1 MAAC). In addition to claiming the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Quinnipiac won a share of its first MAAC Regular Season championship with a three-way tie for first place between Monmouth, Quinnipiac and Marist.
Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) also had a historic day for the Bobcats as he set new program records for wins in a single season with his 41st and doubles wins in a single season with 25. Roser broke former Bobcat Eric Ambrosio's record of 40 wins set last season while Roser broke James Kwei's record of 24 doubles wins from the 2010-11 season. Roser is 41-16 this season.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) picked up two wins on the day for the Bobcats as one of four Bobcats to do so. Ezaka set new single-season career-highs with 19 doubles wins and 38 overall victories, while his 19 singles wins ties his career-high from his freshman season.
Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) had a solid day for the Bobcats with two victories to move his career win total to 95. Kuwert won his 15th singles match and 14th doubles match of the season, both one win shy of tying his single-season career-highs from 2014-15.
Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) won his 25th match of the season as he continues to shine for the Bobcats. Haraguchi has won 13 singles matches and 12 doubles matches this season, good for a 25-15 record.
Kuwert and Haraguchi breezed at No. 2 doubles for the Bobcats as they picked up a 6-1 victory over Abubakar Tswako and Julien Aubry-Damon before Roser and Ezaka clinched the doubles point at No. 1 singles with a 6-3 win over Yohari Nguyen and Jimmy Merah. ASA won the No. 3 doubles match with Emmanuel Popaduiec and Tomas Dirube defeating Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey), 6-2.
Kuwert cruised at No. 2 singles as well as he defeated Tswako swiftly in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Ezaka extended the Bobcats' lead at No. 1 singles as he defeated Nguyen, 6-3, 6-4. ASA got its first point of the match at No. 2 singles as Merah defeated Rozenstein in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Haraguchi clinched the match victory for the Bobcats at No. 5 singles as he defeated Alex Meseguer, 6-2, 6-2. The Avengers got their second point of the match at No. 6 singles with Facundo Couso picking up the 6-4, 6-1 win over Ben Teicher. Roser rounded out the match for the Bobcats with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 win at No. 4 singles over Aubry-Damon.
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will return to action in the MAAC Semifinals on Saturday, April 30 when they will face the No. 3 seed Marist Red Foxes at 10 AM at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey.
