WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey – MAAC Player of the Year Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) won the clinching match for the Quinnipiac men's tennis team as the Bobcats advanced to the MAAC Championship match for the first time in program history with a 4-1 win over Marist.
Ezaka and Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) were the only two Bobcats to pick up two wins in the exciting semifinals match for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats extended their winning streak to four matches to improve their season record to 16-7 on the season, increasing their program record win total. Marist finished the season with a record of 14-5.
Ezaka now has 40 victories this season, tied with former Bobcat Eric Ambrosio for the second most in a single season in program history. Ezaka has also now won 10 consecutive singles matches dating back to March 16. Kuwert's two wins give him 97 career victories in his career and 50 career singles victories to boost his 2015-16 record to 31-16.
Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) won in singles pick up his 23rd singles victory of the season, tied for the second most in a single season in program history.
The Bobcats clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match over the Red Foxes. Kuwert and MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match against Justin Chanthalangsy and Jan Dernic, 6-1. Marist got even with Quinnipiac with a win at No. 3 doubles as Joe Motta and Fredrik Bjerke defeat Rozenstein and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York), 6-2. Roser and Ezaka battled at No. 2 doubles with Rudolf Kurz and Dylan Fletcher, holding on to clinch the doubles point, 7-5.
Marist evened up the match in singles play as Fletcher defeated Haraguchi at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1. But that was all the Red Foxes would get as the Bobcats won the final three matches in a five-minute span to clinch the victory. The dominos started to fall when Kuwert won his straight set match over Timo Tanzer, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. On the court next to Kuwert, Rozenstein came back to defeat Bjerke in three sets at No. 3 singles 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
