
QU Women's Tennis Battles to 6-1 Win at Bryant

SMITHFIELD, Rhode Island – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team battled back and forth all match long with the Bryant Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon but pulled away with a 6-1 win at the Bryant Tennis Complex.
Five different players won two individual matches for the Bobcats who improve to 7-9 this season while the Bulldogs fall to 3-6.
Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) won a pair of matches to pick up her 30th and 31st wins of the season, good for second on the team to Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut), who won two more matches to reach 34 wins this season. Horton picked up a win at No. 1 doubles for her 20th doubles win of the season.
Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) won two matches to give her 89 career wins, and nine wins this season. Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) won their ninth match of the spring at doubles together and won two matches each. Dzulynsky now has 102 wins in her career with 24 this season while Rencheli won her 14th match this season.
Dzulynsky and Rencheli started off the day for the Bobcats with a win at No. 2 doubles as they knocked off Ashanti Campfield and Nina Luiggi, 6-3. Horton and Young followed that win with the doubles-clinching win at No. 1 doubles over Ryan Brown and Marion Bouillin, 7-5. Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Lohaphaisan finished off the doubles sweep with a back-and-forth win over Stefanie Arroyo and Linnea Sjoberg, 7-6 (8). Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) won an extra doubles match over Briana Leonard and Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic, 6-0.
Singles play was much of the same for the Bobcats as they battled for five wins. Rencheli opened up singles play with a win at No. 4 singles for the Bobcats as she defeated Leonard, 6-3, 6-1 in one of the two straight set wins. Lohaphaisan picked up the other straight set win, defeating Campfield, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 6 singles. Horton clinched the match point for the Bobcats with her win at No. 2 singles over Sjoberg, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-1. Young continued her strong stretch of play at No. 5 singles for the Bobcats as she came back to defeat Bouillin, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-4. Luiggi picked up the only point of the match for Bryant at No. 4 singles as she came from behind and played a lengthy third set with Lu, winning 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9). Dzulynsky wrapped up the winning for the Bobcats at No. 1 doubles as she won two tiebreaker sets to knock off Brown at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 7-6 (5).
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team will host Niagara on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 12 PM where they will honor Dzulynsky, their lone senior, on Senior Day. Ceremonies will begin at 11:30 AM with the match to follow.
