HAMDEN, Conn. – On Wednesday, April 13, the Quinnipiac softball team will host Yale in a doubleheader in honor of assistant coach Lynn Labaddia's son, Chris. Chris tragically passed away after a car accident in January earlier this year.
Leading up to the game, the Bobcats will be running a photo contest dedicated to Chris. He was known for his sense of humor and his ability to "flex" (pictured). His sister currently plays for the Bulldogs, and both her and Lynn thought it would be a great way to remember his spirit! With the hashtag #FLEX4CHRIS, anyone can submit a fun photo "doing something that raises a thought in someone's mind".
"The loss of Chris sadly impacted more than one family. His mom, Lynn Labbadia, has been our volunteer coach for 3 years and is also a member of the QU Hall of Fame while his sister, Brittany, is the Senior shortstop at Yale. Our hearts were all heavy and we all grieved over the unthinkable news," said head coach Jill Karwoski. "Over the past weeks, we have grown to learn more and more about his amazing spirit, zest for life, sense of humor and unconditional love for his friends and family. To remember the love, loyalty and laughter Chris shared, we are naming our game versus Yale in his honor. In addition, we are also raising money that will go directly to the Christopher Labbadia Memorial Fund."
The team's goal is to raise at least $2,500 for the memorial fund. Yale is also raising funds as well leading up to the game. The Bobcats will also be accepting donations at the game in addition to selling LabzStrong... N' Flex bracelets (see below).
