Allison Kuhn (4 Points) Leads Bobcat Offense in the Loss
VESTAL, New York – Several freshmen stood out on Saturday for the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team but it all unfortunately came in a 13-7 loss at the hands of Binghamton at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bobcats drops to 0-3 on the season while the Bearcats even their mark at 2-2 in 2016.
Among the many freshmen to shine on the day included Allison Kuhn (Kingsville, Maryland) who posted a team-leading four-point day (three goals, one assist) as she either scored or assisted on more than half of the goals scored for Quinnipiac on the day. She also becomes the first Quinnipiac freshman to tally at least four points in a game since Maria Blois tallied four points (one goal, three assists) back on April 19, 2013. Kuhn also added a game and personal-high four draw controls.
Three other rookies – Ellie Swenson (Ipswich, Massachusetts), Cara O'Meally (Bay Shore, New York) and Alexa Paul (Warrington, Pennsylvania) – each scored their first collegiate goals in the game. Senior Aileen Carey (Long Beach, New York) also scored her first tally of 2016 to account for the goal scoring on the day for the Bobcats.
O'Meally added to her strong day with a personal-best four ground balls while fellow classmate Aubrey Conti (Latham, New York) posted two draw controls and two ground balls.
Throughout the start of play, Binghamton owned a decisive advantage in possession but the Bobcats were able to capitalize on opportunities twice in transition. The first came off the stick of Swenson as Devin Kelly (Miller Place, New York) spotted her sprinting up the right-hand side for the early goal. About eight minutes later, O'Meally carried the ball upfield and took on the defense going one-on-one before burying one past Binghamton's keeper to make it 2-1 Bobcats after 9:21 of play.
The lead would stay in Quinnipiac's favor until the midway point of the first half as the Binghamton offense erupted for five straight goals and seven of the next eight tallies overall to take a commanding 8-3 lead with 24:46 to play in the second half.
Despite the five-goal deficit, the Bobcats did not go away quietly as Carey scored with a high shot as Kuhn found her with a great pass in the teeth of the Bearcat defense. Paul followed that up with an unassisted marker just 39 seconds later that made it 8-5 with 21:57 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, a 3-0 Binghamton run over the next 14+ minutes of play sealed their fate as two back-to-back goals from Kuhn weren't enough to overcome the deficit as the Bearcats walked away with the 13-7 victory.
The seven goals for Quinnipiac are enough for a season-high while the shot totals (16), shots-on-goal (15) and draw controls (13) each go down as a new season-best in 2016 for the Bobcats.
Binghamton was led by Jacqueline Kennedy who tallied five points (three goals, two assists) while Sophia Racciatti posted four points (two goals, two assists) of her own.
Next up for Quinnipiac is a first-time meeting against Army West Point as the Bobcats will travel for a 12 PM start on Saturday, March 5.
