HAPPY TO BE BACK
Quinnipiac is heading back to the site of where it won the 2015 national championship, as Brown served as last season's host for the semifinals and finals. The Bobcats defeated Norwich 36-22 and Army West Point 24-19 to bring home the first national title in Qiunnipiac athletics history.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior fullback Maggie Myles accounted for all 10 of the match's first-half points with a pair of tries, and the defending national champion Quinnipiac women's rugby team broke open a defensive struggle late in the second half to capture a 30-5 win over Notre Dame College on Sept. 24 at Founders Field in Pittsburgh, increasing its winning streak to 10 matches.
TEN STRAIGHT
Quinnipiac enters this weekend with a 10-match win streak, dating back to a regular season loss to Central Washington a year ago. The Bobcats rebounded to win their final six matches of last season, including three in the national tournament, and have begun this season with four straight wins to stretch the win streak to 10.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Junior Ilona Maher and Sophomore Emily Roskopf are dominating the field in the start of this 2016 season. Both Maher and Roskopf tallied 2 trys and 1 assist in last week's bout against Norwich University.
JOHNSON ON TOP OF THE TACKLE
Junior Mason Johnson tallied a game high 5 solo tackles in the matchup against the Norwich Cadets on Sept. 17. The scrum half battled through the pack to earn 1 try and 2 assists as well. Last season Johnson had 44 solo tackles and 16 assists while earning a spot on the inaugural NIRA collegiate rugby All-America team.
DEE-FENSE
Quinnipiac has been on a remarkable run defensively, allowing only one try in the last 3 1/2 games. After trailing Army 19-17 at the half in the season opener, the Bobcats outscored the Black Knights 15-0 in the second half to come away with the win. Quinnipiac then earned a 44-0 shutout win over AIC, the first shutout for the program since a win over UConn in 2012. A penalty conversion from Norwich late in the first half ended the shutout streak on Sept. 17, but the Cadets were unable to break into the try zone as the Bobcats rolled to a 64-3 win. Notre Dame finally crossed over the line in the second half on Sept. 24 in a 30-5 Bobcat win, ending a tryless streak of 255 minutes for Quinnipiac. Since halftime against Army, the Bobcats are outscoring their opponents by a whopping 153-8.
COMING UP NEXT
Quinnipiac will continue their season on the road with a cross-country trip to meet Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Central Washington was the last team to defeat the Bobcats, earning a 33-12 win in Hamden last year.
