QU Women's Rugby Tops AIC on Senior Day, 38-34

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's rugby topped American International College, 38-34, during senior day on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Southington High School.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7-1 on the season. Quinnipiac has outscored opponents 510-87 now on the 2016 season.
The Bobcats honored their seven seniors prior to the start of the contest: Hailey Wyatt (Breckenridge, CO), Lindey Wise (Franklin, WI), Maggie Myles (Emmitsburg, MD), Rachel Wrinn (Southington, CT), Abby Cook (Dunbarton, NH), Madison Gegeckas (Dowington, PA), and Tayler Schussler (Westminster, MD) were all recognized.
Emily Roskopf (Pleasanton, CA) got Quinnipiac going with a try less than five minutes into the game make it 5-0. Schussler was next to score for the Bobcats, getting into the end zone to make it 10-0. Gegeckas made the conversion, and QU took a 12-0 lead.
Quinnipiac's Flora Poole (Christchurch, New Zealand) was next to get on the stat sheet, tumpbling into the end zone for a try to extend QU's lead to 17-3 with just 15 minutes left in the half.
Karee Helgerson (Portland, OR) scored the next, and Gegeckas nailed the conversion to put Quinnipiac up 24-3. The Bobcats led 24-8 at half.
Roskoff broke through the AIC defensive line with 28:50 left in the second half, sprinting in for another try and Quinnipiac – with a successful conversion – led 31-8.
Karee Helgerson (Portlant, OR) added the Bobcats' last try, making it 38-8. AIC made a late comeback in the final moments, falling just short – as the Bobcats made a big stop with no time left on the clock.
