NEW BRITAIN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team took 12th place out of 17 teams at the CCSU Mini Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park just outside the campus of Central Connecticut State University. The Bobcats now look forward to the 2016 MAAC Championships held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney next weekend.
Freshman Sara Wilcox (Glastonbury, Connecticut) was the big star on the day for the Bobcats, as she led Quinnipiac with a 40th place finish out of 127 competitors. Placing first on the team for the first time in her young career, Wilcox becomes the first freshman Bobcat to finish first on the team in an event since the 2014 season. She clocked in at 10:50.88 on a gorgeous Stanley Quarter Park on Friday.
Underclassmen continued to dominate the day for the Bobcats as sophomore Maria Ricalton (Canton, New York) placed 69th overall. Racing towards the back of the pack for the majority of the event, Ricalton successfully moved up in the later stages to come through with a time of 11:11.29. For Ricalton, she tied her personal-best with a second place finish on the team.
Fellow classmate Kaitlyn Hebert (Glastonbury, Connecticut) followed right behind Ricalton's pace as the sophomore finished right behind her teammate in 75th place of 127. Hebert stepped up on the short course with a time of 11:14.24.

Quinnipiac now heads into the MAAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 for the first time at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Florida. The Bobcats are coming off a thrilling 2015 MAAC Championship performance, dethroning the 10-time defending conference champions Iona. The meet is set to begin at 9 AM and will be live streamed on ESPN3.
