
QU Women's Tennis Falls to Buffalo at First Day of UConn Invite

EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of their 2015-16 season Saturday night, falling to the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, 6-0, at the East Hartford Racquet Club.
Quinnipiac and Buffalo played a four plus one format at the UConn Invitational, in which the two teams played one doubles match and four singles matches.
Buffalo took a 2-0 lead early in the match as they won the lone doubles match on the day. The Bulls top doubles team of Dayana Agasieva and Margarita Kotok took on the Bobcats' pairing of Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California), with the Bulls pulling away, 6-4, 6-2.
In singles play, the Bobcats hung tight but the Bulldogs managed to complete the sweep without dropping a set. Laura Holterbosch and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) competed at No. 3 singles, with Holterbosch taking the match, 6-3, 6-3. Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) took on Sanjana Sudhir at No. 4 singles, wrapping up just after the No. 3 singles match, with Sudhir pulling away to win the match, 7-5, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Buffalo's Tanja Stojanovska faced off against Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and came away with the sweep, 6-4, 6-4. Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) nearly forced a third set after a strong second set against Chantal Martinez Blanco, but the Bulls' No. 2 hung on to win the match, 6-4, 7-5.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team continues play at the UConn Invitational Sunday when they face the UConn Huskies beginning at 11 A.M. before taking on the Bryant Bulldogs later in the day at 3 P.M. with both matches taking place at the East Hartford Racquet Club.
