Reilly, King, Conaboy Lead Bobcats In Win
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University field hockey used a pair of first half goals to power past Yale, 2-1, in the Bobcats 2015 home opener at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats' home win is their first victory of the season while they improve to 1-3 on the year. Yale drops to 1-1 through its first weekend of the season.
Quinnipiac senior Savanna Reilly (Hamden, Connecticut) and junior Angie King (South Windsor, Connecticut) scored for the Bobcats, while Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut), Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania) and Haley Swartz (Downington, Pennsylvania) all had assists. In goal, Megan Conaboy (Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania) stopped nine of Yale's 10 shots-on-goal.
Swartz and Reilly hooked up for the Bobcats' first goal, which came a little more than 13 minutes into the game, when Swartz handled the ball above the circle, turned away from a defender and slapped the ball on goal. Reilly slid in behind a defender, reached out with her stick and re-directed Swartz's blast past Yale keeper Emilie Katz to give the Bobcats an early lead.
King's first marker of the year came off a corner with 11 minutes to go in the first half. Federico inserted the ball, finding McCullough at the top of the circle. King unleashed a blast on goal that found its way through traffic to the back of the cage to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
King made another great play moments later with Yale pressing. The Bulldogs were awarded a corner, which was handled by Carol Middough. Middough bombed a shot on-goal that King stepped in front of and redirected away. It was the third straight game in which King recorded a defensive save, giving her three for the year. Last season, Quinnipiac led all NCAA Division I field hockey programs with 13 defensive saves, while King ranked ninth with five, while also leading the MAAC.

Less than a minute into the second half, Middough scored to cut Quinnipiac's lead in half, 2-1, giving her all three goals of the young season for the Bulldogs. She was set-up on the tally by Nicole Wells.
Down the stretch, it was Conaboy making five straight stops in goal on Bulldog scoring bids.Yale also outdrew Quinnipiac on corners, 7-2, with four coming in the last half of the second frame. On Yale's final two corners, the Bulldogs went to Middough on both. The first saw senior defensive stand-out Megan Osanitsch (Harwinton, Connecticut) drop her stick low to deflect the shot before she stepped in front of a laser by Middough on her second corner attempt to void Yale's last scoring opportunity of the game.
