Federico Scores In 2nd Straight Game
EASTON, Pennsylvania – The Quinnipiac University field hockey fell to Lafayette, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up in Easton, Pennsylvania. The Bobcats fall to 1-5 on the year while the Leopards improve to 5-1.
Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut) scored her second goal of the season while Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania) set her up on the play for her second assist of the year. Angie King (South Windsor, Connecticut) recorded her sixth defensive save of the season and 11th of her career.
Less than 10 minutes into the game, King stretched her defensive streak to five games with her sixth of the year. Lafayette was awarded a corner and shot by Hannah Millen sailed wide of Conaboy before King was able to re-direct it the opposite way.
Lafayette's Amanda Magadan gave the Leopards and early lead with her fourth goal of the season just over 12 minutes into regulation. Magadan picked off a pass deep in the Bobcats zone, ran wide of Quinnipiac goalie Megan Conaboy (Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania) and sneaked the ball just inside the post to give Lafayette an early lead.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Millen found the back of the Bobcats' cage off a corner with assists going to Ami Turner and Ellen Colbourne.
Midway through the second half, Savanna Reilly (Hamden, Connecticut) carried the ball just above the Leopards circle before feeding McCullough to the right of Lafayette's goal. McCullough then found Federico waiting in front and zipped a pass to the sophomore forward's stick for the tip-in to put Quinnipiac on the board.
A relentless Bobcat attack in the closing minutes of regulation produced a corner as time ran-off, but Quinnipiac was unable to convert on a stingy Lafayette defense.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it hosts Maine for a non-conference match-up on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m.at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Connecticut.
