
QU Women's Tennis Wins 10 Matches at Sacred Heart Doubles Festival

Fairfield, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team won 10 individual matches to open up the 2015-16 season as they competed in the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival at the Sacred Heart Tennis Courts.
Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Los Alamitos, California) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) teamed up to win four matches to go 4-1 and pick up the most victories on the day for the Bobcats. Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) went 3-2 as the A-doubles team and the all freshmen team of Adrian Young (Orange, Ohio) and Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) also went 3-2 in their first day of competition.
Overall, the Bobcats went 10-5 on the day, including the first three matches of the day and seven of the last eight. All four of Quinnipiac's freshman played in the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival, with all four picking up their first wins in their first career match.
Dzulynsky and Lu started off the afternoon for the Bobcats with a 6-4 victory over Fordham's Lexi Zobeidah and Carolina Sa. Following the first match of the season, Lohaphaisan and Horton added to the Bobcats win total as they cruised past Providence's Hannah Zangari and Nicole Zytarski, 6-2. The all-freshmen duo of Young and Mircea continued the streak for the Bobcats as they won in a tiebreaker over Providence's Katie Marvin and Risa Takanaka, 7-6 (6).
In the second grouping of matches on the afternoon, the Bobcats came up just short in all three matches, losing by a combined seven games. Dzulynsky and Lu fell in their second match by just two games, dropping the match 7-5 against Providence's Alana Prinos and Emma Burgess. In Flight "B," Lohaphaisan and Horton came up just short, falling in the tiebreaker set to Fordham's Estelle Wong and Whitney Weisberg, 7-6 (4) before Young and Mircea lost to Sacred Heart's Paige Olson and Olivia Podsiebierski.
The Bobcats got back to their winning ways in the final three sets of matches at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival. Lohaphaisan and Horton sailed to a 6-4 victory over Providence's Jenn DeLuca and Amanda Pitocco before Young and Mircea cruised past Providence's Brooke Burnside and Grace Biaciunas, 6-2. Dzulynsky and Lu dropped their second and final match of the day to Fordham's Mayu Soto and Hannah Drayton, 6-2.
Dzulynsky and Lu got right back to their winning ways in their fourth match of the day as they faced the host Sacred Heart's Katie DiRienzo and Sabrina Navarro in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2). Lohaphaisan and Horton won for the third time on the day as they breezed past the Pioneers' Lindsey Post and Taylor Gurda, 6-2. The Bobcats final loss on the day came as Young and Mircea fell to Fordham's Destiny Grumin and Gianna Insogna.
The Bobcats won all three of the final matches on the afternoon as they faced Hartford Hawks duos in all three matches. Dzulynsky and Lin cruised to a 6-4 victory over the Hawks' Katherine Long and Skylar Schaar. Lohaphaisan and Horton teamed up one last time to pick up their team-leading fourth win of the day with a 7-5 win over Ariel Haber and Meredith Heitland. In the final match of the day for the Bobcats, Young and Mircea knocked off Gianna Sabino and Felicia DeMarco, 6-2 to round out the Bobcats 10 win day.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returns to action on Friday, Sept. 18 with the first day of the Quinnipiac Invitational set to begin at 10 A.M. before continuing on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 9 A.M. and wrapping up on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 9 A.M. All three days will take place at the Outdoor Tennis Courts. Scheduled to compete at the Quinnipiac Invitational are Drexel, Fairfield, Hartford, Providence, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
