Junior Molly Jarrett (Northport, New York) had a hit in each game as part of a 2-for-4 day. Jarrett broke up a no-hit bid by Pitt in the third inning of the Bobcats' first game when she roped a single to right field. Jarett was retired on an ensuing double-play ball before Keilani Finley (Alameda, California) mustered the Bobcats only other hit against the Panthers. Jarrett pushes her team-leading average to .545 (6-11) as she has hit safely in all five games she has played. Dani Edmands (Northborough, Massachusetts) had Quinnipiac's second hit against LIU Brooklyn.
Hannah Lindsley (Narragansett, Rhode Island) took the loss for Quinnipiac after giving up six runs – five earned – on nine hits over 4 1/3. A passed ball moved Pitt's lead-off hitter in scoring position, with the run subsequently scoring an unearned run. Lindsley worked through the next two batters before striking out Shelby Pickett for the second out. Jordan Fanninn delivered a run-scoring single before Lindsley struck out Erin Hershmann to end the inning. Lindsley retired the three batters she faced in the second before giving up three runs over the next three innings before being lifted in favor of freshman hurler Casey Herzog (Wappingers Falls, New York). Herzog was tagged for a two-run homer by McKayla Turner as Pitt crossed four across in the fifth inning.
In the second game against LIU Brooklyn, Sydney Robey (Glenmoore, Pennsylvania) logged a perfect first inning, but was hit with a three-run second inning. Blackbirds' catcher Victoria Zamora reached on an error and stole second before scoring on a two-run double by Kylie Mulholland that also scored Celinna Cosio. In the third, Zamora blasted a one-out home run to give LIU Brooklyn a 4-0 lead, followed by base hits by Cosio and Nicole Archer. Cosio's hit knocked Robey out of the game as Herzog came-on in relief again, who gave up four runs on three hits over the final 1 2/3 innings.
The Bobcats resume play at the FGCU/Four Points by Sheraton Spring Break Classic in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, Mar. 7 when it faces Boston University at 12:15 PM and FGCU at 4:45 PM.
