HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team has announced that seniors Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) and Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) will remain the captains of the men's tennis team for the second consecutive season.
Ambrosio and Barbero were named captains last spring during their junior seasons and continued to lead the team through this past fall.
"Eric and Sebastian bring strong leadership to our team, they have a true understanding of what it means to make individual sacrifices to achieve team goals and work hard towards it every day," Quinnipiac men's tennis head coach Chris Pappas said. "They lead by example on and off the court raising the bar for our players to excel in tennis and academics."
Ambrosio enjoyed a great fall season where he achieved several milestones in his tennis career. Ambrosio became the fifth men's tennis player in program history to record 100 victories as Ambrosio finished the fall season with 116. He is 21 wins away from tying John Hughes '10 for the most wins in program history. Ambrosio did pass one of Hughes' former records, as Ambrosio became the Quinnipiac All-Time Division I Career Singles wins leader as he finished the fall with 67 career wins. Hughes was the previous record holder with 61.
"Eric's individual accomplishments are unmatched but it's how he gets the wins that have made him a leader of our team," Pappas said. "He fights hard for every point and our team feeds off of that energy."
Barbero is another member of the tennis team who has had a tremendous career heading into his final spring season. He has won 72 career matches, good for 13th in program history and second on the active roster only to Ambrosio. He also sits in 10th place in program history with 40 career singles wins. Barbero is second on the active roster in singles wins and doubles wins, behind his fellow captain Ambrosio.
"Sebastian is a fierce competitor and extremely hard worker," Pappas said. "He brings the same effort in practice as he does in a match who raises the level for level for everyone."
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with two matches on the road. The Bobcats travel to Providence, Rhode Island to take on the Brown Bears at the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts at 11:00 A.M. before traveling to Boston, Massachusetts for a match on Sunday with the Boston University Terriers at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center at 2:00 P.M.
