NEW YORK, New York – Former Quinnipiac women's ice hockey players Shiann Darkangelo and Morgan Fritz-Ward have been named to the inaugural National Women's Hockey League All-Star Game, as announced on Wednesday, Dec. 16 with All-Star teams becoming complete.
Last week, Darkangelo, a member of the Connecticut Whale, was selected to the All-Star game as she was selected to the All-Star team captained by the Buffalo Beauts' Emily Pfalzer. The Boston Pride's Hilary Knight will serve as the captain of the other NWHL All-Star team.
Following the All-Star draft on Dec. 10, there were four days of a fan vote in which the New York Riveter's assistant captain Fritz-Ward received 6,948 votes, the second most in the fan vote, and was also placed on Pfalzer's team, joining Darkangelo in the all-star game. Over 62,000 votes were cast in the fan vote.
After scoring a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal with just nine seconds left in regulation, in the Whale's thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the New York Riveters on Sunday, Dec. 13, Darkangelo is now second in the NWHL with six goals on the season and tied for fifth in the league with eight points. For the Riveters, Fritz-Ward has tallied one power play goal and one assist for two points in the inaugural season.
The Whale are the only remaining undefeated team in the NWHL at a perfect 8-0-0-0 while the Riveters are third in the league with a 2-5-0-1 record.
The inaugural NWHL All-Star game will be held on January 24th in Buffalo, New York at the HarborCenter, the home of the Buffalo Beauts. Tickets are $25 when purchased online or can be purchased at the HarborCenter on the day of the All-Star Game for $30.
