
QU Women's Golf Leads DSU Invitational After First Round

DOVER, Delaware – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team completed the first round of the Delaware State University Invitational in first place out of four teams at Maple Dale Golf Club in Dover, Delaware. The Bobcats combined for a 318 (+26) after all six players finished in the top 11.
Freshmen Luciana Tobia (La Paz, Bolivia) finished second with a 76 (+3) and will start the second round on Monday two strokes behind Hampton University's Britney Smith (74, +1). Tobia entered the weekend with a team-best 78.22 average per 18 holes and now has seven sub-80 rounds in the first 10 rounds of her collegiate career, including three straight rounds in the 70's.
Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) was right behind her classmate with a 79 (+6) and tied with DSU's Suchada Anusuriya. Kemmling entered play on Sunday with an 80.50 average and has shut 81 or better in five straight rounds, including her first round at Maple Dale.
Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) completed the first round tied for fifth with an 81 (+8), while freshman Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin) continued her hot streak with an 82 (+9), giving her three consecutive rounds below her season average of 84. 50. After opening her collegiate career with three of her first four career rounds at 87 or higher, she has shot 79, 81 and 82 over her last three rounds.
Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) finished 10th with an 83 (+10) while Jenn Whaley (Farmington, Connecticut) was tied for 11th with an 84 (+11).
Quinnipiac resumes play at Maple Dale Golf Club for the second round of the DSU Invitational on Monday, Oct. 19.
