
QU Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Four Matches with 7-0 Sweep of Saint Peter's

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team picked up their fourth win of the season Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats swept the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 7-0, and winning all nine matches of the afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 4-1 (2-0 MAAC) and are riding a four-match winning streak at the conclusion of dual match play in the fall while Saint Peter's drops to 2-3 (0-1 MAAC). The Bobcats are now 22-0, including postseason play, MAAC opponents since joining the conference prior to the 2013-14 season.
Freshman Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) became the first Bobcat to reach the 20 win mark this season with two more matches on Saturday to improve to 20-8 and an impressive 13-5 mark in conference play. Lohaphaisan's doubles partner, Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) picked up a pair of wins to improve to 19-8 and win her 60th career match. Horton is also one doubles victory away from tying her single-season career-high of 14 from her freshman season in 2013-14.
The Bobcats made quick work of the Peacocks as they dropped just three games combined between all three doubles matches while in singles play the Bobcats didn't lose more than three games in any match. Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) picked up the first victory of the day for the Bobcats as they knocked off Elena Melian and Claudia Hellman, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles. Finishing just shortly after was Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) and Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) as they dominated at No. 3 doubles in a 6-1 win over Stephanie Falcon and Aidah Muhammad. Finishing of the doubles sweep, Horton and Lohaphaisan defeated Malieva Hedberg and Lucia Radovic, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, the Bobcats settled in nicely to cruise to their second conference victory of the season. Horton picked up the first singles win of the day as she finished off Radovic, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Dzulynsky picked up her 10th win of the season for the Bobcats with her win at No. 1 singles over Melian, 6-2, 6-0, with a strong second set performance. Lu clinched the match victory for the Bobcats as she came out on top against Hedberg at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Two Bobcats were selected for next week's ITA Regionals in Hanover, New Hampshire at Dartmouth College. Horton will represent the Bobcats in main draw singles while Horton and Lohaphaisan will take the court together in main draw doubles beginning on Thursday, Oct. 22.
