
Quinnipiac Softball Plays At Longwood Classic This Weekend

Back At Longwood
The Quinnipiac University softball team returns to
Longwood University to participate in the Longwood Classic in
Farmville, Va. this weekend. The Bobcats play in a pair of games on
Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27. On Saturday, Quinnipiac
takes on Bucknell at 11 a.m. and Longwood at 3 p.m. It then plays
Stony Brook at 9 a.m. and Bucknell at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The
Bobcats participated in Longwood's Lancer Leadoff last weekend,
where the team went 1-3.

Leaders
The Bobcats are led by two-time All-Northeast Conference
pitcher Heather
Schwartzburg, who earned the 2009 NEC Rookie of the Year title
and a First Team selection in 2010. Alex Alba was named the NEC's
Rookie of the Year in 2010. Senior captain Joelle
Jacobsen will lead the Bobcats this season, alongside 12
returning letterwinners, five freshman and two junior transfers
from Iowa Lakes Community College in Ashley
Heiberger and Christy
Cabrera.

Out: Lancer Leadoff
Quinnipiac opened the
2011 season at the Lancer Leadoff at Longwood University on Feb. 19
and Feb. 20. On Saturday, the Bobcats lost 5-3 against IUPUI and
Army. On Sunday, the Bobcats defeated Army, 6-5, and lost to host
Longwood, 4-1, later that day.
Freshman
Faces
The Bobcats' freshman pitcher Emily
O'Keefe won her first collegiate game against the Black Knights
on Feb. 20. O'Keefe allowed three runs and six hits over seven
innings. She also struck out two batters. With the score tied 5-5
going into the seventh inning, freshman Jordan
Paolucci hit her first collegiate homerun to give the Bobcats
the 6-5 win against Army.
Ladies At The Lancer Leadoff
Jacqueline
Ristow started in all four games at the Lancer Leadoff. The
junior infielder contributed four hits, scored three runs and drove
in two RBIs. Junior transfer Ashley
Heiberger appeared in two games for Quinnipiac. She went
3-for-4 and scored one run at the tournament. Sophomore outfielder
Lauren
Salgado added three hits, three runs, and picked up her first
RBI of the season. Senior captain Joelle
Jacobsen currently leads the team with 27 putouts, while Christy
Cabrera has tallied a team-high 14 assists.
A Look At The
Longwood Lancers
Longwood enters the tournament undefeated at 4-0 on the
year, after beating IUPUI, Quinnipiac and Army at its Lancer
Leadoff tournament last weekend. Longwood defeated Quinnipiac, 4-1,
on Feb. 20. Brooke Short led the Lancers with three hits, scoring
one run against the Bobcats. Brittany Shotwell posted the win,
allowing one run and two hits over five innings. The Bobcats' only
run was scored by Joelle
Jacobsen. Overall, Short led the Lancers in RBIs (10), hits (8)
and runs (6) at the Leadoff. Courtney Long collected 43 putouts for
Longwood, while Ashley Kramer earned 14 assists at the
tournament.
Scouting
The Stony Brook Seawolves
Stony Brook begins
its 2011 season at the Longwood Classic. Stony Brook returns seven
letterwinners from last season, where they went 32-21-1 overall.
The Seawolves also finished at 10-7 in the America East. The
Seawolves will play the Bobcats on Feb. 27 in the first game of the
day at 9 a.m. Stony Brook leads the all-time series against
Quinnipiac, 6-5, beating the Bobcats last season,
1-0.
Breaking
Down The Bucknell Bison
Bucknell enters the
tournament at 1-4 on the year. The Bison kicked off the 2011 season
at the Coastal Carolina Kickin' Chicken Classic where they played
James Madison, Coastal Carolina, and Saint Joseph's. Bucknell's
only win of the tournament was against James Madison, 4-0. Jessie
Snyder contributed five hits for the Bison, while Sam Rollandi
added two hits and scored three runs. Alison Ford and Mallory Lyons
each picked up two RBIs at the tournament. Right-handed pitcher
Alex MacLean earned her first win of the year and struck out 15
batters over the weekend. Bucknell will face Quinnipiac twice at
the Longwood Classic.
Preseason
Picks
The Bobcats were recently selected to finish fourth in the
2011 Northeast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, after making an
appearance in the NEC Tournament in 2010. The Bobcats posted a
29-24 overall record and a 15-5 mark in conference play last
year.
What's
Ahead For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac returns to
action at the Under Armor Invitational hosted by the University of
South Florida between March 4 and March 6. The Bobcats will face
Western Michigan, Loyola Maryland, Central Michigan, Florida
International and Maine at the invitational.
