Hughes began the week with a 6-1, 6-3, victory over David Shaheen in the Bobcats' 5-2 victory at Villanova. After falling to Harvard's top player, Alexei Chijoff-Evans, 6-2, 6-0, Hughes responded with a pair of victories at No. 2 in the Bobcats' victories over Monmouth and Bryant. He defeated Monmouth's Ian Terpilowski, 6-4, 6-2, before getting past Juan Paredes of Bryant, 7-5, 6-4. Hughes also split four doubles matches at No. 2 with freshman Andrew Weeden.
The 5-3 record on the week pushed his overall season mark to 17-13. He's 9-5 at singles, including a 5-0 mark out of the No. 2 position in dual matches.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they travel to Teaneck, N.J., to take on Fairleigh Dickinson. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
