LORETTO, PA. - Senior forward Dwayne Mars' (St. Michael, Barbados) first two goals of the season were not enough to lead Quinnipiac to victory, as the Bobcats were defeated, 4-3, by Northeast Conference opponent Saint Francis (Pa.) at DeGol Field. Quinnipiac falls to 1-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NEC. Saint Francis improves its overall record to 6-3-0 and 2-0-0 in NEC action.
Saint Francis (Pa.) sophomore forward Wayne Tiller scored the game-winning goal in the 90thminute, off a pass from senior forward Patrick Fleming, to give the Red Flash the 4-3 lead and subsequent victory. Saint Francis had tied the game at three just two minutes earlier, in the 88thminute, off a touch pass from junior midfielder Kingsley McLeod to senior defender Benjamin Kujawa. Kujawa knocked it by sophomore goalkeeper Josh Lavallee (Upland, Calif.), who made three saves in the contest.
Fleming gave Saint Francis a 1-0 lead in the 29thminute of the first half on a free kick opportunity. Sophomore forward Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) quickly responded with his first goal of the season in the 34thminute of play. Suprise received a centering pass from fellow sophomore forward William Daniels (Bethany, Conn.), as Saint Francis (Pa.) goalkeeper Daniel Valcicak was unable to cutoff the pass which allowed Suprise to tap in the ball from just inside the goalkeeper's box. On the play, Daniels picked up his first assist on the year.
McLeod gave Saint Francis the 2-1 lead in the 53rdminute of the second half after he received a pass from Fleming.
Mars knotted the game up, 2-2, in the 69thminute of play on an unassisted goal. His shot from just inside the goalkeeper's box sailed by a helpless Valcicak for his first goal of the season.
The Bobcats took the 3-2 lead in the 80thminute on Mars' second goal. Suprise distributed the ball into the box, where Mars took control and shot into the lower-left corner of the net. For Suprise, it was his first assist of the season.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in an NEC matchup against Robert Morris at North Athletic Complex in Moon Township, Pa.
