As a Sophomore in 2014-15:
- Saw time in 31 games for the Bobcats
- Selected to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team
- Was one of the Bobcats’ top threats from the blue line all season as he racked up 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) while leading all defensemen on the team with 64 shots-on-goal
- Also registered two power play goals and two game-winning tallies while picking up 16 penalty minutes
- Toews ranked second among the Bobcats’ blue liners and third among ECAC Hockey defensemen in points while leading the team’s defensemen in goals and points per game (0.65)
- After playing in just 14 of Quinnipiac’s 22 ECAC Hockey games, Toews ranked fourth among all league defenders in points (12) while his goals and assist totals both ranked fifth
- Bobcats were 13-1-2 as a team when Toews registered at least one point
- Started the season strong with a three-game point streak, landing one assist in each game starting with Bentley on Oct. 11 and then one each in a home-and-home weekend series against UMass Lowell on Oct. 17-18
- Landed his first of four multi-point games on the season on Nov. 1 as he finished with one goal and one assist in a 3-2 win over Northeastern on Nov. 1
- Tallied a great all-around game with one assist, three shots and a +2 rating in a 5-0 shutout of Colgate on Nov. 7
- Assisted on the game-winning power play goal with less than one minutes remaining in a 4-3 road win at Union on Nov. 14
- Also picked up an empty net assist to ice away a 3-1 road win over Rensselaer on Nov. 15
- Put together the most productive stretch of his career as he reeled off a career-high five-game point streak in which he tallied six points (one goal, five assists) with a +2 plus/minus rating from Nov. 29 through Dec. 28
- Started the streak with an assist on a power play goal in a 3-1 road win at UMass on Nov. 29
- Played one of his strongest games of the season as he assisted on both of the Bobcats’ goals, including the overtime game-winner, in a 2-1 win over Dartmouth in a game in which he also finished with four shots and a +2 plus/minus
- Tallied one assist against Harvard at home on Dec. 6
- Fired in a huge third period game-winning power play goal as the Bobcats took down Princeton, 1-0, on the road on Dec. 28
- Riffled in a power play goal on Jan. 9 in a 4-2 win over Rensselaer
- Picked up an assist on Jan. 10 in a 4-3 home win over Union
- Was a key player in the Bobcats’ 5-2 win at Harvard on Feb. 27 as he registered two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal, to go along with a season-best +3 plus/minus rating
- Played huge for the Bobcats in Game One of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals as he picked up two assists in the final two minutes of regulation to help send the game into overtime with QU eventually coming out on top, 4-3, in triple overtime of the postseason victory
- Registered a +2 rating and tied his season-high with five shots in Game Two of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal series against Union
- Fired two shots-on-goal in the NCAA Tournament West Regional against North Dakota on March 27.
As a Freshman in 2013-14:
- Appeared in 37 games
- Was one of the Bobcats’ most consistent and steady threats from the blue line all season as he finished with 17 points (one goal, 16assists) as well as a +10 plus/minus for the season
- Selected to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team
- Following the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, Toews was chosen by the New York Islanders in the fourth round of the 2014 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft
- Toews was taken with the 108th overall pick of the draft, becoming the second-highest drafted player in Quinnipiac history
- The Bobcats’ second-highest scoring defenseman, Toews also ranked eighth nationally in freshmen defenseman points and was one of six freshmen defensemen in NCAA Div. I hockey with 15 or more assists
- His +10 plus/minus was also one of 15 freshmen defenders in the country with a plus/minus of +10 or higher
- Toews’ first career point came against Holy Cross in a 4-2 victory on Oct. 25 with an assist on Kellen Jones’ game-tying second period goal
- His first career goal came in a 3-3 tie against Providence on Nov. 27
- He then went on to tally 10 assists in his final 16 games of the season
- His first multi-assist game came on Dec. 6 against Rensselaer
- Toews highlighted his scoring outburst towards the end of the season with back-to-back two-assist games at Merrimack (Jan. 18) and at Dartmouth (Jan. 31)
- Tallied two assists in postseason play starting with one helper in the Bobcats’ 6-2 Game One victory in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals against Yale (Mar. 14)
- He also went on to tally one assist against Colgate in the ECAC Hockey Semifinals.
Before Quinnipiac:
- Joined the Bobcats after a two-year career with the Surrey Eagles of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL)
- In 102 career games for Surrey, he scored 17 goals while assisting on 59 more for 76 career points
- In 2012-13, he scored 10 times while leading the team with 37 assists as his 47 points ranked fourth on the Eagles’ roster
- He was named Best Defenseman at the 2013 RBC Cup as well as Best defenseman in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference.
