Daeumler's First Collegiate Goal Earns Bobcats Victory in Metro Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. — First-year midfielder Linus Daeumler's 41^st-minute tally held up as the deciding goal in the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team's Metro Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, as the Bobcats knocked off hosts Rider by a 1-0 final to start the league season on the right foot.

Daeumler finished off a chaotic sequence in the box that featured a pair of blocked shots off the feet of Taehyeon Lim and Andrew Monteserin, but the Gollhofen, Germany native as able to corral the deflection at the top of the box and rip it home to give Quinnipiac all it would need.

The Bobcats controlled 44 percent of the ball over the match but outshot Rider by a 13-9 margin, with a 6-3 advantage in shots on frame. They also withstood nine Rider corners.

Alexander Hansen helped his squad get back in the win column, stopping all three shots on frame for his first collegiate shutout.

STATS AND NOTES

Daeumler became the seventh Bobcat to find the net this season with his first tally as a Bobcat.
Andrew Monteserin now has a pair of assists on the season.
Cameron Brooks came off the bench and played a season-high 58 minutes in the midfield.
Nine different Bobcats recorded a shot, with Lim leading the way with three attempts and two on goal.
