Lutz's Golden Goal Secures First NEC Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team earned its second straight overtime victory and first NEC win over Sacred Heart 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Ava Bleier put the Bobcats on the board three minutes into the second. The goal was Bleier's third in as many games and marked the first time this season Quinnipiac scored first.
The Pioneers found the equalizer with just 7.3 seconds remaining in regulation, forcing the Bobcats into overtime for the second consecutive game.
Quinnipiac wasted little time in the extra period as Julia Lutz converted on a penalty corner off a feed from Katie Shanahan to score the game-winning goal.
Meike van Schoot earned her third win of the season, making nine saves in goal.

Meike van Schoot earned her third win of the season, making nine saves in goal.

- Quinnipiac earned its first NEC victory since 2012 and recorded back-to-back overtime wins for the first time in at least a decade.
- Ava Bleier scored her third goal of the season and fifth of her career, extending her goal streak to three games.
