HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Rugby earned a convincing win in the 2025 home opener, downing Brown by the final score of 33-14 on Saturday afternoon in Hamden.

The Bobcats cruised out to a 25-7 lead over the first 40 minutes. Gabrielle Appiah and Lucy Lamborn both found the try zone in the first 10 minutes of action to give Quinnipiac an early 12-0 edge, then Layla Cox scored twice before halftime to extend the advantage.

Alexa Kirschner knocked in her second penalty kick of the day to begin scoring in the second half for the Bobcats, then Carolyn Melody registered a try of her own with less than five minutes left in action.

The Bobcats move to 1-1 on the season with the victory.

NOTES

Gabrielle Appiah's try less than three minutes into action was the Bobcats' first of the new season. Appiah found the try zone twice last season.
Lucy Lamborn's try is her sixth over the last two years. She scored five times in 2024.
Layla Cox (10 tries in 2024) scored twice to help pace the Bobcats in the win. Both of her scoring plays came in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
Carolyn Melody scored the final try of the game in the 76^th minute – her first collegiate score.
Alexa Kirschner chipped in with a pair of penalty conversions, one just before halftime, and another to begin scoring in the second stanza.
The Bobcats are now 6-1-1 all-time against Brown. Quinnipiac is 3-0 against Brown in home contests.
With the victory, Head Coach Becky Carlson is up to 95 career victories with the Bobcats (dating back to 2011).
