Women's Tennis Sweeps Major MAAC Awards

EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac Women's Tennis first year Willow Renton has been named MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league office on Thursday, April 24. Along with Renton winning both major awards, Head Coach Paula Miller was named MAAC Head Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to their 10th regular season MAAC title.
QU finished with five Bobcats earning All-MAAC nods in total, with four earning them in singles and doubles. In addition to winning Player and Rookie of the Year, Willow Renton was a unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection in singles while also earning First Team All-MAAC doubles with her partner Caitlin Flower. Flower, Anagha Shankar, Vera Sekerina, and Caroline Schulson were named to the All-MAAC Second Team Singles while Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina also got All-MAAC Second Team Doubles honors.
Willow Renton - MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year & First Team Singles: Renton made an immediate impact in her first season at QU, going 7-1 at the No. 1 singles spot. She owns wins over three All-MAAC First Team selections, helping the Bobcats earn a perfect 8-0 record. Two of those wins came in straight sets, defeating Rider's Fishman 6-4, 6-2 and Fairfield's Mandma 6-3, 6-2. Against Sacred Heart's Bartyzel, Renton came back from a set down to win the last set two sets dominantly to win at a score of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. The first year from Goshen, Ky. earned three MAAC Player of the Week nods this season, as she also posted a perfect 8-0 record at No. 1 doubles with partner Caitlin Flower.
Paula Miller - MAAC Coach of the Year: Miller lead QU to their 10th regular season title, posting their ninth perfect MAAC regular season in that time. Miller now holds a record of 65-2 in MAAC regular season play in her time at the helm.
Miller has been named MAAC Coach of the Year seven times prior (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023). She has led Quinnipiac to seven MAAC Tournament titles and seven NCAA Tournament appearances (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023).
Anagha Shankar - Second Team Singles: Shankar won each match at No. 3 singles to finish 8-0, the only Bobcat to record a singes win in every MAAC contest this season.
Caitlin Flower - Second Team Singles: Sophomore Caitlin Flower earned her second All-MAAC Singles honor in as many years after posting a 7-1 record in league play at No. 2 singles.
Vera Sekerina - Second Team Singles: Sekerina also earned her second All-MAAC Singles award, recording a 6-1 record at the No. 4 singles spot.
Caroline Schulson - Second Team Singles: Schulson went undefeated (7-0) at No. 5 singles with one DNF to earn her first All-MAAC singles selection as a Bobcat.
Willow Renton / Caitlin Flower - First Team Doubles: In their first year as a doubles pair the two immediately clicked for QU, going 8-0 in the MAAC at No. 1 doubles.
Anagha Shankar / Vera Sekerina - Second Team Doubles: The No 2 doubles pairing for QU won five MAAC matches this spring.
The Bobcats also placed seven on the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Those student-athletes are:

QU enters the MAAC Championship this weekend with a perfect conference record while going 10-8 overall to earn the top seed in the upcoming tournament. The Bobcats will either play the No. 4 seed Rider or No. 5 Siena on Saturday, April 26th at 2:00 PM at Mercer County Tennis Park in West Windsor, N.J.
