Women's Tennis Continues MAAC Play this Weekend

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's tennis is ready for its final home match of the season against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday evening at North Haven Health & Racquet before taking on Sacred Heart on Sunday evening at Tennis Club of Trumbull.

QU enters the weekend 7-8 and 5-0 in MAAC play. Mount is currently 2-16 and 1-4 in league play and has never won a match against QU, who holds a 10-0-1 record versus the Mountaineers. SHU is 5-10 and 2-3 in conference play and has only one win versus QU since 2002, with the Bobcats taking the last 20 meetings.

BOBCATS DOWN SIENA, STAY UNBEATEN IN MAAC PLAY

QU won the doubles point with two dominant matches from Willow Renton / Caitlin Flower and Anagha Shankar / Vera Sekerina.
They also got straight sets singles wins from Caitlin Flower, Anagha Shankar, and Caroline Schulson. Sekerina's opponent retired down 4-1 in the third set.
Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina each won their sixth straight singles match, the longest active streaks on QU.
Shankar, Vera Sekerina, and Caroline Schulson all moved to 5-0 in singles in MAAC play.

RENTON NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME

First year Willow Renton was named MAAC Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
This weekend she earned the recognition by going 4-0 with two singles wins and two dominant doubles wins with Caitlin Flower at the No.1 doubles position.
Her and Flower defeated Merrimack's McLoughlin and Philips 6-1 and Rider's Brown and Naves 6-2. In singles, Renton defeated Merrimack's Thompson 6-2, 6-2 and Rider's Fishman 6-4, 6-2.

CONSECUTIVE MAAC SWEEPS

QU defeated both Merrimack and Rider 7-0 this past weekend.
Willow Renton, Anagha Shankar, Vera Sekerina, and Caroline Schulson all moved to 4-0 in singles in MAAC play.
Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina have won five straight singles matches.
Ella Lewis improved to 2-1 in MAAC play.
Caitlin Flower and Willow Renton are on a four-match winning streak at No. 1 doubles.

RENTON NAMED MAAC TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Willow Renton was the first Bobcat to be named MAAC Player of the Week this season after a 2-0 start to MAAC Play against Niagara.
The Goshen, Ky. native won her No. 1 doubles match with Caitlin Flower, 6-2 over Niagara. She also had one of QU's four singles wins at the No. 1 spot, defeating Niagara's Melo, 7-6(5), 3-0, ret.

SHANKAR LONE WINNER AT BRYANT

The lone singles winner of the day was Anagha Shankar, taking her match at No. 3 singles in straight sets.
Her and Vera Sekerina also took their doubles match 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

SWEPT AT HARVARD

The Bobcats fell 4-0 at Harvard a week ago.

IN STATE LOSS

Caitlin Flower was the lone winner for the Bobcats in their 6-1 loss at UConn on Wednesday afternoon.
Flower won in straight sets, only dropping four games.

DOMINANT WIN OVER NJIT

QU won its first home match of the season 7-0 over NJIT on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Willow Renton and Anagha Shankar won their singles matches in three sets, while Caitlin Flower, Vera Sekerina, Caroline Schulson, and Ella Lewis won in straight sets.
It was QU's first win over NJIT in program history, having lost to the Highlanders 7-0 on Mar. 6, 2022.

SEASON-OPENING LOSS TO YALE

The Bobcats fell 7-0 at Yale to open their spring season.

ITA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

This past fall at the ITA Regionals, the Bobcats won six matches.
The doubles tandem of Willow Renton and Caitlin Flower advanced to the Round of 16 before falling.
Renton also won her first round singles match.

MAAC MASTERS TOURNAMENT

Willow Renton is coming off a very successful MAAC Masters tournament, reaching the semifinals in both singles and doubles brackets.
She joined Caitlin Flower in the doubles semifinals bracket where they fell Sunday morning.

WEST POINT HIDDEN DUELS

The Bobcats won a combined 23 matches over the three days.
Willow Renton went 8-0 between singles and doubles.
Caitlin Flower went 6-2 over the course of the weekend.

QUINNIPIAC HIDDEN DUELS

Against UConn, Willow Renton won her first match as a Bobcat against UConn, winning in straight sets. Caitlin Flower won her singles match in a third set tiebreaker
The Bobcats took four matches against Saint Francis, with Anagha Shankar winning her singles match in a third set tiebreakers while Caroline Schulson and Vera Sekerina won their matches in straight sets. Isabella Sicignano also won her first match as a Bobcat, teaming up with Jordan Bradley in doubles.
QU took 10 matches from Fairfield on Sunday of QU Hidden Duels.

LAST YEAR (2023-24)

Quinnipiac women's tennis went 10-12, with a 5-1 MAAC record.
The Bobcats fell in the MAAC Tournament Championship to regular season champions Fairfield 4-3.
QU named three players to All-MAAC teams with Caitlin Flower getting the nod in singles and doubles with partner Caroline Schulson, while Dominique Yeo earned singles honors.

MAAC DOMINANCE

QU has now won seven MAAC championships/advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times since joining the league (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2021-22, 2022-23) under Head Coach/Director of Tennis Paula Miller.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Miller, the Bobcats have earned at least a share of the regular season MAAC title nine straight times since joining the MAAC in 2013-14. Miller has been named MAAC Coach of the Year seven times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023). She has led Quinnipiac to six MAAC Tournament titles and six NCAA Tournament appearances (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022).
