Quinnipiac Dominates Iona in MAAC Quarterfinals

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team opened up their MAAC Tournament run in a dominating fashion, defeating the Iona Gaels 79-51 in the MAAC Quarterfinals. With the win, the Bobcats advanced to the MAAC Semifinal to face the winner of the Siena/Merrimack on Friday, March 14th at 2:30 PM.
Gal Raviv made her mark in the MAAC Tournament as the first year led the Bobcats with 23 points on 11-for-16 (69%) shooting from the floor. Raviv dished out a team-high seven assists to lead the Bobcats over the Gaels. Ella O'Donnell was perfect from the field (5-for-5) as she recorded 12 points. Karson Martin shot 57% (4-for-7) from the field, scoring 11 points. Martin led the Bobcats with seven rebounds in a team-high 35 minutes. Anna Foley and Paige Girardi each added eight points to help power the Bobcats past Iona.
Both teams struggled shooting early in the opening quarter as the Bobcats held just an 8-6 lead at the first quarter media timeout. Quinnipiac closed out the quarter on an 11-7 run to open up a six-point lead (19-13) at the end of the first frame.
Iona knotted the game up at 21 early in the second quarter, but it was all Bobcats after that to close out the half. Quinnipiac closed out the half on a 22-7 run to blow the game open and give them a 15-point advantage at the half.
The Bobcats continued to dominate the Gaels as they opened up a 24-point lead (59-35) at the third-quarter media timeout. Quinnipiac would head into the fourth quarter with a 65-39 lead. Ella O'Donnell and Gal Raviv led the way for the Bobcats in the frame.
The fourth quarter saw Quinnipiac's lead get as high as 31 as Paige Girardi knocked down a step-back three to make it 79-48 Bobcats. Quinnipiac closed out the final minute as they sealed the quarterfinal victory over the Gaels.
