HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's tennis is set to play its first MAAC match of the season at Niagara before heading to play two Ivy League opponents in Dartmouth and Harvard.
Niagara enters the weekend 1-3 with a win over Duquesne. Dartmouth is 7-3 with wins over Marist, Depaul, Le Moyne, Butler, Delaware, Liberty, and BU. Harvard comes in with an 8-3 record with wins over No. 22 NC State, Georgia, Bryant, Northwestern, Louisville, Brown, UPenn, and Princeton.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's tennis is set to play its first MAAC match of the season at Niagara before heading to play two Ivy League opponents in Dartmouth and Harvard.
Niagara enters the weekend 1-3 with a win over Duquesne. Dartmouth is 7-3 with wins over Marist, Depaul, Le Moyne, Butler, Delaware, Liberty, and BU. Harvard comes in with an 8-3 record with wins over No. 22 NC State, Georgia, Bryant, Northwestern, Louisville, Brown, UPenn, and Princeton.
HOME LOSS TO BRYANT
- James Lorenzetti and Elias Hoxha each won their matches in third set tiebreakers against Bryant.
- QU fell 4-1 to Monmouth at home last weekend, with their lone point coming in doubles.
- The tandems of Elias Hoxha / Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo / Alex Yang each won their doubles matches.
- Four of six singles matches went three sets but it wouldn't be enough for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats have fallen in each Ivy League matchup this season, getting swept by Brown and UPenn and losing 6-1 at Cornell.
- Alex Yang was the lone winner at Cornell, taking his first win as a Bobcat in straight sets.
- Despite Daniel Velek and James Lorenzetti taking their match at No. 1 doubles, the Bobcats dropped the doubles point with Elias Hoxha and Finn Burridge falling in a tiebreaker in their match at No. 2 doubles.
- Prior to the Red Storm clinching the win, Daniel Velek and Finn Burridge were able to win the first sets of their matches.
- James Lorenzetti was the lone winner for the Bobcats over the weekend, taking the first set in his match at Penn State before his opponent retired.
- Elias Hoxha and Finn Burridge were able to win their No. 3 doubles match against NJIT but it wouldn't be enough to take the doubles point.
- Daniel Velek reached the Round of 16 in the fall ITA Regionals hosted by Harvard.
- Yasha Laskin and Carl Sjoholm also reached the round of 16 in doubles before falling to a pair from Siena.
- Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo battled into the semifinals of the MAAC Masters Tournament in Hamden, Conn. two weeks ago.
- Both members of the duo also reached the quarterfinal round in the singles draw.
- QU won 19 matches over the course of the weekend in Fairfield.
- Elias Hoxha finished the tournament with five straight wins.
- The Bobcats won 11 matches over the two days last weekend.
- Finn Burridge and James Lorenzetti both won their matches against Yale while Carlos Braun Simo, Csanad Nyaradi, and Elias Hoxha won their matches against Brown.
- Finn Burridge / Carlos Braun Simo and Yasha Laskin / Csanad Nyaradi teamed up to win doubles matches over Brown.
- Donovan Brown won both of his matches against Merrimack, including teaming up with Carl Sjoholm to win a doubles match.
- Csanad Nyaradi and Elias Hoxha each won two singles matches.
- Quinnipiac men's tennis took home its first MAAC Championship in program history.
- They defeated Fairfield 4-2 on April 21, 2024 to gain their first NCAA berth since 2010.
- It was the fifth conference championship for the Bobcats overall, winning four in the NEC.
- QU went 14-11 overall and 5-1 in the MAAC.
- Daniel Velek, the defending MAAC Player of the Year, is returning for his final year in Hamden.
- Carlos Braun Simo was Quinnipiac's other first team singles selection, while Finn Burridge and Donovan Brown each made All-MAAC Second Team.
- Daniel Velek was also a first team doubles selection while Donovan Brown received a second team nod.
- The defending MAAC champs return six of eight players from season ago.
- Carlos Braun Simo, Donovan Brown, Finn Burridge, Yasha Laskin, Gaurav Mootha, Csanad Nyaradi, and Daniel Velek all return for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats welcome four incoming First Years, Elias Hoxha, James Lorenzetti, Carl Sjoholm, Vishal Prakash.
- They also welcome transfer Alex Yang from SMU.
