Volleyball Falls to William & Mary, Bucknell on Saturday Afternoon

WILLIAMSBURG, V.A. – The Bobcats wrapped up the William & Mary Invitational on Sunday afternoon, falling to William & Mary in four sets and falling to Bucknell in three sets.
Leilani-kai Giusta led the team with 14 kills, while also recording eight digs in the first match against William & Mary.
Yagmur Gunes recorded 13 kills, which led the team, and seven digs in the three-set loss to Bucknell.

SET ONE (25-12, William & Mary)
William & Mary bounced out to an early 11-6 advantage, forcing the Bobcats to use their first timeout of the match. The Tribe was able to extend their lead to 17-10 out of the timeout before the Bobcats used their final timeout of the set.
William & Mary used an 8-2 run after the break to earn the victory in the first set, 25-12.
SET TWO (23-25)
The two-sides traded points to a 10-10 tie before the Bobcats pulled ahead to a 16-12 lead, which caused the Tribe to call a timeout. Out of the break, the Tribe made a run to bring themselves within three, but the Bobcats still led 22-19.
After a Quinnipiac timeout, the Tribe got within one point and with the Bobcats up 23-22, Kyle Robinson called his second timeout of the set. After the Bobcats got to set point, a kill from Leilani-kai Giusta gave the Bobcats the second set victory, 25-23.
SET THREE (25-18)
The Tribe jumped out to a 11-6 lead in the third set before Quinnipiac called a timeout. The Bobcats pulled within three out of the break before William & Mary extended their lead.
William & Mary had their largest lead of the set grow to eight before they finished off the set earning the 25-18 set victory.
SET FOUR (25-12)
The Tribe jumped out to a lead again in the fourth set as they saw themselves up 10-6 before Quinnipiac called a timeout.
William & Mary used a 15-6 run out of the timeout to close out the set, 25-12, to win the match.
Bucknell 3, Quinnipiac 0
SET ONE (26-24, Bucknell)
Quinnipiac opened their second match of the day with a 10-5 lead against Bucknell, which forced the Bison to call a timeout. Out of their timeout, the Bison went on a 14-7 run to take the 19-17 lead which caused the Bobcats to use a timeout.
The teams traded points out of the timeout before the Bobcats got back-to-back points to even the set at 23. After the Bucknell timeout, the Bison scored three of the next four points to win the set, 26-24.
SET TWO (25-19)
The Bobcats and Bison traded points in the second set before the Bison pulled away to a 20-18 lead until Bucknell called a timeout.
Out of the break, the Bison scored five of the next six points to win their second set, 25-19.
SET THREE (25-13)
Bucknell opened the third set on a 8-4 scoring run which caused the Bobcats to call their first timeout of the set. Out of the break, Bucknell went on a 7-2 run which gave them a 15-6 lead.
After Quinnipiac called their second timeout, Bucknell increased their lead to twelve before sealing the match with the 25-13 set three victory.

The Bobcats are back in action next weekend at the George Mason Invitational as they open play on Friday, Sept. 13 against Navy (10 AM) and Old Dominion (4 PM).

- Elena Giacomini picked up 12 kills and Yagmur Gunes added ten kills for the Bobcats in the loss to the Tribe.
- Chloe Ka'ahanui recorded 39 assists in the four-set match against the Invitational hosts.
- In the match against Bucknell, Yagmur Gunes led the team with 13 kills, while also recording seven digs.
- Chloe Ka'ahanui recorded 32 assists to give her a combined total of 71 assists on the day.
- Fa'avae Kimsel Moe led the team with 14 digs in the loss to Bucknell.

The Bobcats are back in action next weekend at the George Mason Invitational as they open play on Friday, Sept. 13 against Navy (10 AM) and Old Dominion (4 PM).
