Bobcats Fall in Five Sets to Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team fell in five sets to the Dartmouth Big Green despite 19 kills from Yagmur Gunes on Saturday night in Hanover.
Elena Giacomini was second on the team with 15 kills and Leilani-kai Giusta recorded 10 kills. Damla Gunes led the way with 35 assists in the five-set loss.

SET ONE (25-21, Quinnipiac)
Quinnipiac and Dartmouth traded points early in the first set as the two sides were even at seven before Quinnipiac pulled away to a 15-11 lead at the media timeout. Out of the break, Dartmouth went on a 5-3 run to cause QU to call their first timeout as the Bobcats held an 18-16 lead.
Out of the Quinnipiac timeout, the Big Green went on a 5-4 run to make it a one-point game as the Bobcats used their second timeout of the set. After the Quinnipiac timeout, the Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to close out the set.
SET TWO (25-10)
The Bobcats opened the second set on an 11-6 run to cause Dartmouth to call an early timeout.
Out of the break, the Bobcats continued their dominance in the second set as they went on a 14-4 run to close out the second frame. Alexandra Tennon and Leilani-kai Giusta each recorded two kills in the set.
SET THREE (22-25)
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 15-11 lead as they approached the media timeout in the third set. Leilani-kai Giusta recorded three kills in that span to lead the Bobcats.
After the break, the Big Green scored three of the next five points as Kyle Robinson called a timeout for QU. A 6-2 run from Dartmouth caused the Bobcats to call their final timeout of the set as they were trailing 20-19. After the two sides were knotted up at 22, the Big Green used a 3-1 run to force a fourth set.
SET FOUR (14-25)
Dartmouth started the fourth set on a 12-8 run to force QU to call their first timeout of the set.
The Big Green continued to dominate the fourth set as they went on an 8-3 run as Quinnipiac called their final timeout of the set. After the timeout, Dartmouth scored five off the next eight points to force a decisive fifth set.
SET FIVE (11-15)
Dartmouth opened the decisive fifth set with a 6-3 lead as the Bobcats called a timeout. Out of the break, the Big Green made it 8-5 before the teams swapped sides.
Dartmouth grew their lead to 11-8 as the Bobcats used their final timeout of the match to stop the momentum. After Quinnipiac made it 13-11 and a Dartmouth timeout, the Big Green scored two straight points to close out the match.

- Damla Gunes recorded 35 assists in five sets, her third-highest assist total this season.
- Dartmouth improves to 9-1 all-time against the Bobcats.
