Volleyball Earns Clean Sweep Over George Mason

FAIRFAX, V.A. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats faced the George Mason Patriots for the second time this season and defeated them in three sets on Saturday afternoon to close out play at the George Mason Invitational.
Elena Giacomini led the way for the Bobcats with 13 kills and Yagmur Gunes finished with 10 kills and three service aces. Damla Gunes recorded 20 assists and three service aces to help the Bobcats seal the three-set victory.

SET ONE (25-20, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 7-2 lead which was capped off by a kill from Elena Giacomini which forced George Mason to call an early timeout. Out of the break, the Patriots got within four, making it 14-10 before Quinnipiac used their first timeout.
After the Quinnipiac timeout, George Mason went up 16-14 before Quinnipiac scored eight straight points to take a 22-16 lead. After the Patriots made it 22-20, the Bobcats scored three straight points to win the set.
SET TWO (25-22)
The two sides traded points in the second set, but Elena Giacomini recorded a kill to bring us to the media timeout as Quinnipiac opened a 15-13 lead. Out of the break, the Bobcats made it a 18-15 lead as the Patriots called a timeout.
George Mason brought it closer as the Bobcats held a 21-19 lead as they called a timeout to halt the Patriot comeback. A service error from George Mason put the Bobcats at set point and a kill from Leilani-kai Giusta sealed QU's second set victory.
SET THREE (25-16)
Quinnipiac came out with their eyes set on closing the match out in three sets and took a 12-7 lead forcing George Mason to call a timeout.
The Bobcats continued their dominant play as they led 18-11 heading into the second George Mason timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats continued to dominate and sealed the match win with a 25-16 win in the third set.

The Bobcats are back in action next weekend as the compete at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday Sep. 21 and Sunday Sep. 22 as they battle Dartmouth and Providence.
