Volleyball Downs Siena in Five Sets

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team secured their 12th conference win with a five-set victory over Siena on Saturday afternoon.
Yagmur Gunes led the team with 23 kills each in the five-set victory, while Damla Gunes directed the offense, recording 48 total assists.

SET ONE (26-24, Siena)
Siena recorded the game's first point, but Quinnipiac quickly returned and got a point. Both teams traded the lead, with Quinnipiac going on a 3-1 lead and Siena coming back going on a 3-0 run of their own.
Quinnipiac led 9-7 until Siena 5-0 run and took the lead 15-13. Quinnipiac went on a 3-0 to take back the score to lead by one, 16-15. Siena countered with a 6-2 run to win the set.
SET TWO (16-25)
The second set started with Siena scoring the first point, but Quinnipiac returned to even the game. Quinnipiac went on a 7-2 to give them a two-point lead to put the score at 9-7.
Quinnipiac had control of the game as they ended the set on an 11-4 run to take the second set 25-16.
SET THREE (13-25)
Quinnipiac took momentum from the last set as they scored the first point in the third. Quinnipiac went on a 7-0 run to lead 9-4 before Siena went on a 5-2 run to bring the lead down to 11-9.
Quinnipiac, not letting up, went on an 8-2 run to lead 19-11. To end the set, the Bobcats went on a 6-1 run to go up two sets to one.
SET FOUR (25-18)
Quinnipiac started the set on an 8-3 run. Siena took the lead on an 8-0 run to lead 15-12. Quinnipiac went on a 4-2 run to cut the lead down to 17-16, but Siena went on a 5-1 run to continue the lead as they led 20-16.
The Saints ended the set on a 4-0 run to push the game to five sets, winning 25-18.
SET FIVE (12-15)
Quinnipiac started with a 3-0 run, starting off the set strong, then going on a 4-2 run, leading 7-3. Siena then went on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 7-8.
Even though the Bobcats led the whole set, the Saints continued to fight and went on a 5-2 run. Quinnipiac closed the game going on a 3-0 run, winning 15-12.

- Three different Bobcats recorded double-digit kills: Yagmur Gunes, with 23, Elena Giacomini, with 16; and Leilani-kai Giusta, with 10.
- Carola Negron Diaz led the team in digs, recording 16. Diaz has recorded double-digit digs in the last four out of five matches.
- The Bobcats had 63 kills to Siena's 47.
- Quinnipiac dominated the service line with 11 aces in the victory over the Saints.
- Damla Gunes recorded 46 assists in the effort.
