Quinnipiac Earns Second Straight Three-Set Victory

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team defeated the Iona Gaels, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats recorded back-to-back straight set victories to close out their homestand.
Yagmur Gunes had a stellar performance, recording 20 kills on 35 total attacks, while also recording nine digs. Gunes also led the Bobcats with 20.5 total points.

Quinnipiac opened up the match with a 14-11 run as Leilani-kai Giusta led the way with five kills before Iona called their first timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, the two sides traded points, and the Bobcats took a 19-16 lead in the opening set.
Out of Iona's second timeout of the set, the Gaels went on a 4-2 run to make it a one-point game, 21-20. After Quinnipiac used their first timeout of the match, Iona took a one-point lead, 23-22, forcing the Bobcats to use their final timeout of the set. Quinnipiac closed out the opening set on a 6-3 run to earn the 28-26 set one victory.
SET TWO (25-21)
Iona held a 16-11 lead before the Bobcats called their first timeout of the set. The Bobcats went on a 6-4 run to make it a three-point set, 20-17, before Iona called a timeout.
After the Iona timeout, Quinnipiac used a 5-0 run to take a 22-20 lead late in the set. Out of Iona's second timeout of the set, QU went on a 3-1 run to take the second set, 25-21.
SET THREE (25-10)
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the third set as the Gaels called their first timeout of the set. Out of the break, the Bobcats went on an 8-2 run to force the Gaels to call their final timeout.
After the timeout, Quinnipiac continued to apply the pressure and went on an 11-6 run to close out the match.

- Giusta recorded double-digit kills for the ninth match in a row as she recorded 11 kills.
- Carola Negron Diaz recorded 12 digs, which was good for the team lead.
- Eight different Bobcats recorded at least one kill in the win over Iona.
- Quinnipiac and Iona each recorded 5.0 total blocks.
- Quinnipiac dominated the service line with four aces compared to none from the Gaels.
- Damla Gunes recorded 20 assists in the win and Chloe Ka'ahanui registered 18.
