HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey suffered its first loss in BIG EAST play, as the Bobcats were downed by Villanova at home, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.

Lucia Pompeo, Sophia Pompeo, and Emilia Massarelli led the offense with a goal apiece in defeat

With the loss, the Bobcats moved to 3-3 on the 2023 season and 1-1 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova improved to 5-3 in its campaign and 2-0 to open conference play.

SCORING SUMMARY

Q1 – (8:36) – Stella Tegtmeier drew a penalty stroke after taking a shot on net in the crease. Lucia Pompeo took the penalty stroke attempt and beat the keeper bottom left to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead
Q1 – (10:20) – Emilia Massarelli carried the ball all the way up the right side and sprinted into the offensive zone and put one past the keeper to extend the lead to 2-0
Q1 – (12:23) – Lucia Pompeo took a shot on net but Sophia Pompeo redirected the shot into the back of the net to push the lead to 3-0
Q1 – (13:22) – Villanova's Meghan Mitchell corralled a loose ball in the zone and put it home to cut the QU lead to 3-1
Q2 – (20:51) – Mitchell corralled a loose ball in the zone again and shot a rocket to the bottom of the net past the keeper to cut the QU lead to 3-2
Q3 – (44:38) – Mitchell corralled a loose ball in the zone and snuck the ball past the keeper to knot the game at 3-3
Q4 – (51:13) – On a penalty corner insert, Raina Smolij sent a pass to Anne Drabbe, who shuffled it to Mitchell. Mitchell fired home and gave Villanova a 4-3 lead
