HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey came up short in the 2023 home-opener, falling against UMass, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the QU Field Hockey Stadium.

With the loss, the Bobcats open the 2023 campaign at 0-2, while UMass improves to 2-0.

SCORING SUMMARY

Q1 – (11:41) – Off a penalty corner insert, Megan Carpenter received the insert and shuffled the pass to Steph Gotwalls. Gotwalls lined up the shot for Mali Herberhold, who struck it past the keeper to put UMass ahead 1-0.
Q1 – (13:31) – Jess Beech fired one past the keeper on a penalty stroke attempt to extend the UMass lead to 2-0.
Q4 – (55:46) – Stella Tegtmeier sent the ball in off a penalty corner, which was stopped by Kate Zamagni. Zamagni lined it up for Olivia Howard who fired it home to cut the deficit to one.
