Massarelli Records Hat Trick in Loss at New Hampshire

DURHAM, NH. – Emilia Massarelli recorded her first career hat trick, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats fell short against New Hampshire 4-3 in overtime on Friday afternoon in Durham.
With the loss, the Bobcats open the 2023 campaign at 0-1, while New Hampshire improves to 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Hampshire struck first in the opening frame and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime before Emilia Massarelli scored the equalizer at almost two minutes into the second half off of an entry from the top circle from BIG EAST Preseason Co-Midfielder of the Year Stella Tegtmeier. Nearly a minute later the duo struck again as Tegtmeier made a feeder pass to Masarelli near the crease before she put it home for her second goal of the game and Tegtmeier's second assist.
However, UNH responded nearly a minute later to knot the score at 2-2 in the third quarter. Massarelli and the Bobcats did not go away, as she corralled a loose ball just outside of the circle, carried it in and fired a rocket past the keeper for the first career hat trick of her collegiate career.
However, the Wildcats knotted the game at 3-3 with nearly 2:30 to go in regulation to force overtime, before eventually winning the game off a penalty corner goal in OT.
NOTES
