HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's rugby has announced the addition of 10 incoming student-athletes ahead of the fall 2023 season, as revealed by Head Coach Becky Carlson on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
The Bobcats will add two Connecticut born student-athletes, two international players, two Pennsylvania natives, and one student-athlete from New Jersey, from Texas, from South Carolina, and from Maryland.
"Our squad this year will be deeper than it has traditionally been on the forward side of the house, with our incoming class adding some good size and strength to an already tough and seasoned pack," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Becky Carlson.
"We are extremely excited about the individual skills that each member of this class will bring to our group," Carlson continued, "but even more excited for their desire to make their mark on Bobcat Rugby and to be a part of the culture we have been so proud of as we head into our 13th season."
Full List of Incoming Student-Athletes:
The Bobcats finished last year (2022) with a 5-4 overall record – going 4-0 in October to finish off the regular season. Quinnipiac rugby advanced to the NIRA Semifinals for the ninth time in 12 seasons under Head Coach Becky Carlson. Anna Van Dyk and Gracie Cartwright were tabbed 2022-23 Division I All-NIRA selections.
Carlson enters her 13th year at the helm of the Quinnipiac Women's Rugby team in 2023-24, leading the transition from a new varsity program into a three-time national champion. She has been a key advocate for women's NCAA rugby and equality in athletics for over a decade.
As the original head coach of the Quinnipiac women's rugby team added in 2011, Carlson boasts an all-time record of 75-29-1 including back-to-back-to-back Division I NIRA national championship titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Under Carlson's tutelage the program has been to nationals 6 out of 7 seasons and named 13 All-Americans.
