ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's basketball graduate student Mary Baskerville has been unanimously named the 2022-23 MAAC Women's Basketball Sixth Player of the Year, as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning during its annual awards show.
Baskerville becomes the third player in program history to garner the distinction, joining former Bobcats Taylor Herd (2018-19) and Maria Napolitano (2014-15) to do so.
Coming off the bench in 25 of the 27 games she appeared in, Baskerville averaged 8.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.3 assists per game this season, while only averaging 16.3 minutes played per game. Doing her damage in limited minutes, Baskerville is shooting 70.3% from the floor which is tops in the MAAC.
Baskerville has totaled a team-best, four double-doubles this season, including a span of three consecutive double-doubles all off the bench from Jan. 28 - Feb. 4. During that span, she averaged 12.7 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in three straight Quinnipiac wins.
Baskerville has been a major key in Quinnipiac's defense that ranks fifth in the nation in field-goal percentage defense (34.0%) and 11th in scoring defense (54.1 points per game). Baskerville's 1.4 blocks per game rank fifth in the MAAC, while her 39 total blocks on the season are tied for fourth in the conference. Baskerville has recorded three or more blocks in six contests this season.
Baskerville and the third-seeded Bobcats will be back in action in the MAAC Quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon as they take on the sixth-seeded Manhattan Jaspers. Thursday's contest, along with the entirety of the MAAC Tournament, can be seen live on ESPN+, with Saturday's title game live on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m.
